Poll: Why do you post/lurk at SYM?
This is a quick poll to figure out why people here post or lurk at SYM. No need for any dscussion or lengthy descriptions, just give a short and simple motivation why you are being here.
Didnt use the poll option since I could not predict what reasons people might have.
And please, post even if you usally just lurk.

I lurk/post/whatever it is I do here simply because I have people on the boards I like to interact with. A lot of members I used to associate with do not post near as much as they used to, but there are still enough people to keep me coming back.
oh, and I'm a hopeless flirt, so I'm kinda stuck here as long as I have people to flirt with

Ditto plus i am addicted to the internet
But seriously i like the discussions here. But something i wanted Kayless to hit on with the comparision to the DC forums, is that SYM is evolved to a more intellectual discussion and less fun forum.
That is why i tried DC and spent some time there. However since the whole war that happened, which i have no clue about i decided to stick around here insteadof DC though i stilll lurk and love the New Mens room
But basically SYM is no more fun. Its very intelligent

I wish I knew what happened with that flame war too (which I might add, is the only flaming that's ever happened there). I took a couple days off and everything went to hell.
The thread was deleted by it's writer (I forget who now) before I could get through more than a couple pages, so I have no clue what was said or why, just that tempers flared regarding differences between SYM and the DCI board.

That about sums it up.

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I am a MAJOR lurker. Unfortunately, I've tried to lay off spam, and it just ended up that I had very little to contribute other than quality spam, unless it was a very charged political thread or movie thread. And I decided to mostly lay off the politics, and there are very few movie threads around here. Still, I love the vibes of the place, so I've been checking up a couple, 3 times daily.

From what i know Tybs knew quite a bit but he considered me SYM so that ended very quickly after the incident. I am not sure at all what happened, but basically the younger spammer community moved to DCI and the rest of the older crowd stayed here. Shame really we had an excellent community.Kayless wrote:I wish I knew what happened with that flame war too (which I might add, is the only flaming that's ever happened there). I have a lot of friends here, though some do not post as much as they used to, and as Xan says it is the only place I know of on the net where I can cut up, spam, or discuss/read about politics or philosophy all at once. Plus, I check in at least once per day (usually more
) because I'm a frequent user of the PM system

Well, I find this place better then reading the newspaper (for global happenings, anyway), as it gives multiple sides of an agrument and event.
Also, being around since the begining, I've come to enjoy this place too much, with a great atmosphere and potential for discussion, not to mention the contacts I've made.
Besides, there's something grand about being one of the two most prominent Canadians on a forum

I think i lurk alot.
I realy like this board, came here for the same reason as most members, namely Baldur's Gate II.
I used to be a member of another board but that board was closed cause there was very very much spam, and flaming between "guilds" (can someone remember the name i know some more people tranfered over to gamebanshee)
I like the admosphere of Gamebanshee, and i love the fact that there are no pictures in the signatures, that makes a board look realy messy.
But i dont post in SYM that often. Since English isnt my native language it's sometimes hard for me to make my statement in a "heavy" discussion. Adnw hen i dont visit the board for a day or 2 you sometimes have so much posts in a thread that i dont bother reading them all, so i dont post.

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
One thing i agree with Stilgar on is that sometimes there are so many posts in a thread that i prefer to lurk instead of post. Its easier unless it is spam.
