Irenicus... how do you stand a chance?

Post by Bernie »

So finally I reached the tree of life and it's time to teach Irenicus a lesson or two. However, this guy kills the entire party so damn quick it's not funny. I tried it with 10 fire elementals surrounding him before the cut-scene starts, no success. I tried timestop myself (Edwin used a scroll, but it did nothing at all). I cast every single protection spell before the battle starts, but it's just like timestop - ice storm - meteors - maze - 3 party members dead... bringing him down to "injured" then he timestops again - whole party dead

Anyone has some little tips?

Thanks in advance

Summon a invisible stalker and make all your party haste away from the battle, the Stalkershould attack him and because he is invisible he cannot be targeted with spells Image

Well, I'm not too sure about the Invisible Stalker. Isn't it so that when an Invisible creature attacks (by spell or melee), he becomes partially visible?

Anyway, FYI, there are several tactics in the tactics and walkthrough department of this site. You might want to check those out, and see if that works.

let irinecus cas his defensive spells and run away. He will follow you, during his chase change all your weapons in ranged weapons (so lots of arrows and slings). The cast detect invisibilty and breach. After that irinecus will cast some shitty spells and your arrows will kill him.. If someone dies dont be afraid you will get them back

Try the strategy section on the website, there are some pretty cool strategies here.

* try to have the cloak of mirroring, the power to refrect most spells thrown agains you is awesome.
* Slayer good... Iranecus bad....

BTW Maurice als je onzichtbaar bent kan je geen target van spells zijn.

Ah, yes, I forgot, Irenicus CASTS SPELLS against targets first, before turning into the Slayer ... but what does he do when he can't target the creature with spells? WIll he ignore it, or go melee against it??

As it is, you can go melee against Invisible creatures once they made an attack ... the become *PARTIALLY* visible, so you can attack them ... but at some penalties on your Thac0.

I dont think he can target Greater invisibility unless he detects it, which he probably wont, an invisible stalker remains invisible regardless of Detect dispell etc.

Thinking about it somewhat more ... are the Invisible Stalkers truly invisble?? I remember you faced them in BG I, in the maze below the Thieves Guild. There they would appear once they made a melee attack. Although there still wasn't much to see, you could target and kill them.

How have they done it in BG II??

Summon Nishruus and go away. They are immune to magic so Irenicus will waste his spell on them and his magic defenses wilkl expire. Then move on for a real easy kill

I thought he was kind of easy compared to some of the other things in the game i had to fight. Maybe I just got lucky. Basically I just used Breach everytime he did protection against magic weapons. Used purge invis everytime he did mislead or shadow door. And just had my kensai and Keldorn wail on him.

The carsomyr has dispel everytime it hit, which took care of his other prection spells like reflected image and stuff. Also keldorn can cast dispel at twice his actual level, very very useful.

In hell, well he was even easier it seemed. Just took longer to kill. The arrows from Imoen and Valygar continuously disrupted his spell casting once his protection spells are down, it's just a matter of chopping him down piece by piece.
