I've edited Meleny's stats and looting behavior - guess I'm bad;-), I normally pick her up and Kella and Darley from time to time. I don't use NPC's entirely through the game Meleny's quite nice as you can just drop her off anywhere in Homlett and pick her up anytime you need her... plus just aquring her is the result of fulfilling a quest.

The only npc's I've never used are Bertman, Otis, Mother Scrugg, Burne and his fighter friend.

I didn't edit the looting, but I got the half-share-cash-only patch. I guess I'm just less bad :)

I use the same three the most as you do, Melany-Kella-Darley.

Although I haven't used any others much at all. I was going to use Hruda, but staring at her portrait...couldn't do it. If there was a way to change it, I would!

Was going to use Serena once, but change my mind for some reason.

I use Serena from time to time... Her sister Riana from the brothel also. Riana is the better of the two, stat wise and since she comes naked you can supply her gear as you see fit... unless you take Serena on as a slave - then she's great as she does not loot then - but you have to be in an evil frame of mind for that;-)

How did you edit her looting behavior ?
I too have fiddled with changing stats, but i would love to learn to edit their scripts too. :)

Share Amount is the 165th parameter following the Creature Subtype.

Now these are values I know they may be - I have not taken the time to figure out what these values could be set to when dealing with the Troll Chief Oohlgrist dialogs:

(empty) - for full looting
"half_share_money_only" - for half share only money like Elmo
"nothing" - for no share at all
"one_third_of_all - like Burne
"one_fifth_of_all" - like Rufus
"all_arcane_scrolls_nothing_else" - like Spugnoir

I used to edit the proto file by hand and then just wrote a program to do so but I found a nicer one at the circle of 8 site.

Phalzyr's ProtoEd - http://www.Co8.org or http://www.kasec.org/toee/.

btw... since all these items (npcs included) are just set up as objects in a tree I've added quite a few objects of my own (weapons, magical items, etc...) rather time consuming - also when your in there you pretty much are exposing yourself to spoilers, ie. a basic crown increases your INT. anyway, point is the next thing I plan on attempting is to add another NPC which of course is the most tedious thing to do.

...some more infos and tips about Darley:

for everyone who didn't know: Darley is definetly the coolest (and one of the best) NPCs in TOEE !

the main and AFAIK only difference between her human and alu-demon shape is the AB:

- as human she has AB 7 - but as alu-demon she has AB 12 !!!

- AFAIK her shape has *no* influence on her HP !

- Everytime she joins for the 1st time she gets her HP via hitdice !

- tried this several times with a HP range from 83 to 107 !

...her hit-dice could be (10(level) x 1D4(Sorc) + 3(CON)) + ~50 (alu-demon bonus)

...and there doesn't seem to be any difference if she is in her human or demon shape...

how Darley gets most powerfull:

...she might be a sorc (with only few spells) but she is a great melee fighter (only in her alu-demon shape) when she uses the right items !

...give her bracers +5, a ring of prot. +2, a deep red ioun stone, let Kella cast barkskin on her, and let your wizard craft a wand of shield for her:

this way she will have a more or less permant AC 41 !

...then craft a +3 weapon and gauntlets of STR+6 for her:

then she will have an AB of 18 !

then she should use a greatsword or a glaive...

...and she seems to be able to use holy (!) weapons (she only loses 10HP that way) but I'm still testing this...

additional I would give her an amulet of CON +6

and a cloak of CHA+6 or a cloak of resistance +3 (but her saves are bad so you better rely on her SR and give her the CHA+6 to power-up her charm spells)

...btw. heighten her charm spells to level 5, with SF, GSF and CHA+6 they will get very hard to save against !

...her only minus is that she doesn't have any comabt feats (cleave or whirlwind)

but when using her stoneskin spells in melee she definetly rocks ! :)

Does anybody has info on this ?

Thanks :)

I don't know about the official patch, but I saw a fan patch that claims to let NPCs be levelled up as PCs, so you can pick feats, skills etc. Installed it but haven't tried it yet. If it works as advertised it'll be a godsend for my efforts at an Ironman playa party (1 PC, Bertram, Fruella, Meleny :D )

There should be posts on the official forums and Co8 about it.

I don't remember if the official patch does but the latest co8 (rev 3.03) does.
Hi everyone :) :) :)

I really think the BIGGEST problem with ANY Npc is the fact that he/she don't increase stats at lvl 4 & 8, and that they don't add feats unless they're Fighters.

There might be an entry in the general .dat file that tells Npc Fighters to choose from a list, but some fighters choose whorthy feats, and some (like Bertram) choose whorthless skills (all Exotic weapons).

The "add fighter" level seems to be random, as all fighters add feats at 2-4-6-8-10 only, not 3-6-9 included. Other Npc's (like Meleny, Druid 1) don't add feats at all.

This led me to explore the "protos.tab" & "protos.bak" files found in your data/rules folder after you install the Co8 fan patch.

There i found, among other things, the true stats of all Npc's & Monsters.

It's OFFICIAL : MELENY has 14 WIS !! I tried to change this to 18 and she got Wis bonus to saves & skills, but NO lvl 5 spells. !!! I guess this means she's spells selection is "hard-coded" in the .Dat. file, UGH !!!

So, Meleny with 18 WIS still got no lvl 5 spells....

Also i noticed that most Npc Clerics had no "domain" spells, while some monsters did ! Working as we speak on how to rectify this !!

Anyhow, i have edited my posts on the various Npc stats, but these are the ones not covered by me and missing :

Table will be as follows:

STR__DEX__CON__INT__WIS__CHA__NAME

_10___10___10___10___10____10___Ted
_15___10___10___10___10____10___Strong Ed
_10___15___10___10___10____10___Dextrous ED
_12___13___10___09___07____07___Raimol
_08___12___10___10___14____17___Meleny
_17___16___16___13___12____15___Prince Thrommel
_15___12___12___10___10____14___Rufus
_15___10___15___17___11____12___Burne
_12___16___13___11___16____15___Kella, Human form
_13___16___12___10___11____16___Rianna
_15___18___15___09___11____14___Murfles
_10___10___10___10___10____18___Paida
_12___14___11___11___09____11___Morgan
_13___15___16___12___17____13___Mother Screng

Missing : WICKED

I feel i have missed someone else also....

Also finally got the Alignment of OTIS : Neutral Good !!!
In case you had planned to enchant "UNHOLY" or "HOLY" weapons for him.......Holy & Axiomatic will work fine with him. :D

Edited info about:
Lareth, Wonnilon, Spugnoir, Darley, Ashrem, Jaer, Sargen, Elmo, Otis, Furnok, Turoko, Kobort, Bertram, Fruella, Oohlgrist, Scoorp, Pintark, Tuelk, Taki & Zert
:) :) :)
I'm alway's in the protos.tab file - actually I'm very familiar with it, would you like me to point a new dialog for Otis ;) Oh well, can't seem to keep my hands out of it. As for editing Meleny make sure you edit the stats in ascii decimal ie. 31 38 as 18 not the typical hex 12... Anyway, getting Meleny up to 18 in WIS and then she does get 5th level spell ability when she levels up - I also made her loot nothing, I mean come on... trokia you shouldn't have the wife looting - it's too much like real life, If I wanted that I'd invite my ex back - The G in RPG is for game;-)

Also, they do all pick from the feat list and there are some rather interesting things npc's do... especially Elmo, - he is likely to follow the fighter type in the party... from my experiences, he starts at 4th level if there's a strong fighter in the party he'll level up as a fighter, but if there's a Ranger (who is better than any other fighter in the party) he'll level up as a ranger, or if there's a paladin who's the strogest fighter-type... well then Elmo though drunken like will level up as a paladin.

btw... If anyone wants the stats on any npc, monster or premade pc, weapon, armor, or any object just let me know, I pretty much know many npc's by thier object number kind of sad huh?

If you have info that could help make this game more fun/more playable for consumers, please do so, and maybe start a new 'FIX' thread for it. ;)

I'm particulary interested in giving Melany lvl 5 spells, she's my wife after all and i would like her to be (nearly) ;) as strong as me...

All my 'fiddleling' has been in strd. txt format, are you saying that 'hexing' Melany's Wis to 18 gives her lvl 5 spells ???

As for Elmo, i know that he starts as FTR 4 and in all my (11) runthroughs he leveled up as Ranger for the last 6 levels, without adding other feats than standard ranger stuff. He also always took two-weapon fighting style, never bows...

More info on this is most appreciated, long live EFLAT

Hack & Slash your way to Fortune ;) ;) ;)

More Animal NPCs

I managed to trick a giant crayfish into being an NPC. Just follow the directions that Mulligan already posted for creating animal NPCs. If you don't want to search through the thread, here it is: cast dominate animal on your target. When combat is over, click the levelup tab in the animal's portrait and choose skills, etc. Now kill the animal (single attack, full attack...whatever). Finally, reincarnate it, resurrect it, or have someone else (calmert or jaroo) do it for you.
I made my crayfish a fighter...the other choices were rogue, barbarian, and ranger (can it cast ranger spells?! I'll have to try that sometime).
At 10th level, the crayfish has 103 hp, and it took the following feats:
Standard Fighter Feats (armor, shield, etc.)
Blind Fight
Cleave
Great Cleave
Power Attack
Improved Unarmed Strike (I got to choose that one)
Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Bastard Sword (laugh...it's hilarious...imagine a crayfish wielding both Scather and Fragarach)

Unfortunately, my crayfish holy warrior is an unattainable dream...animal NPCs can't equip ANYTHING AT ALL.

I'm about 75% sure you can do the same thing with humanoids by using the dominate person spell (somebody want to confirm this?).

Could somebody maybe post a list of all the monsters and animals that the dominate spells work on?
Many thanks to Mulligan and Greywulf for the huge amount of work that they've put into this thread.

You can edit Meleny's Wis Stat? Please help me learn how. I've spent a long time building Meleny up in an Ironman party, only to discover she can't use level 5 spells. IF you can help me fix that it would be a godsend!

Meleny Casting Level 5 Spells!

Okay I'm not at all sure how I did this, but here's what happened. When Meleney first hit level 9, the level 5 spell slot couldn't be filled up, presumably due to her Wis 14. I kept her in the party anyway, just figuring that her level 4 Druid spells would be better than nothing. Before battles I had her frequently cast "Owl's Wisdom" on herself to increase her effectiveness.

Well, somehow, when she rose to level 10, she gained the ability to fill those level 5 spell slots! I have no idea how. I am speculating that maybe at the moment she leveled up, the Owl's Wisdom spell was in effect, and in some way tricked the system into giving her access to those spells - even after OW wore off! Just a theory.

At any rate, I later gave her an amulet of Wisdom for good measure, but whatever had given her access to the level 5 spells had already done its "magic" by then.

Only mod any files if you're comfortable and computer savy. That being said... I suggest anyone who's about to mod a file... make a copy of it somewhere else so you can always copy it back as if you screw it up you're game will abort on loading. You will need a HEX editor (if you're familiar with data files) or if you go to the Co8 forums you can find a Protos.tab file editor much easier and will often outline what the data you're looking at is.

In either case Meleny's starting stats are object 14035 in the Protos.tab file located in the \Program Files\Atari\Temple of Elemental Evil\data\rules directory.

Now then in my Protos.tab Meleny looks like this:

'14035 obj_t_npc 8015 20029 size_medium mat_flesh 1 101 25 297 OCF_NO_FLEE 16 17 15 15 19 18 race_human female align_lawful_neutral Old Faith 7570 Blonde Medium (m) 9 12 mc_type_humanoid mc_subtype_human nothing Druid 1 Spot 2 Concentration 4 Spellcraft 4 Survival 4 Heal 2 Spell Penetration Alertness Dodge Empower Spell feat uncanny dodge 17 0 0 0 0 17 0 0 0 0 17 0 0 0 0 Meleny
'
What you don't see here are the unprintable characters... ie. nulls etc... each column representing an objects attributes are separated by a Hex '09' and each Object ends with a Hexidecimal '0A' and as you can see my Meleny's stats are 16 17 15 15 19 18 a bit overkill but what the heck ;)

Hi Philos, ;)

I've gotten the new Temple.dll from Co8, and are experimenting with it right now. As you may know, it let's us level up Npc's as Pc's, really making them much better as we can now choose Feats, Class, Skills etc for them. Working on getting the 'Evil witch' from the big fight at the 'Temple back door' to join by 'Suggestion'. She is the only 'Cleric' Npc with access to domains(Evil & Death). Before she would only take Fighter levels, now i'm curious about her getting acces to more domain spells at higher levels. :p

Also have Fruella & and Spugnoir (always two of my favorites in any setup), i've given Fruella 3 lvl's of Rouge and will give her Fighter for the rest. Sneak Attack with 'Improved Trip' and The 'Great Cleaver' is just great + she's my wife and will never leave, no matter how bad i behave. (Playing Lawful Evil, Of Hextor and my mission is to destroy the 'Fragarach'. I've never done this before to the end, and i'm curious as to wether the sword actually dissapears when i hand it over to 'Turoko & Kobort') .. ;) ;)

But my big time favorites ( or those i had most fun with) were the Brown Bear F10 with 170 Hp and Ohhlgrist the Troll Brb 10 wich at one time had 257 Hp and couldn't permanently die...*(evil grin)* :D

Have fun! ;) ;) ;)
