The stat sacrifice.

Post by Sayne »

My character is a sorcerer, and I'm unsure what I can sacrifice in spellhold... I can't sacrifice strength, which is what I wanted to do, so what should I do? As an elf I have 19 dex, will it be a bad hit to take it down to 18? I can't lose much wisdom and int or else I won't be able to cast WISH as well, down the line. Any ideas?

It shouldnt be too bad, i would do it, as you said wisdom is more important for wish later on, so dex is the best choice.

Well...

I'd take INT, as sorcerors actually have no need of it.

Intelligence

Isn't a good intelligence score needed for the full version of the Wish? I seem to remember hearing something about Limited Wish needing Wis, full wish needs both?

I usually sacrafices a consitution point.
The loss of one constitution point, shouldn't matter much at that level.

***Minor Spoilers***

You could always just lose the point of wisdom now and take the "good" choice in hell when you vs Sarevok, IIRC that's the one where you get an extra point to wisdom & charisma.

The AC bonus of 19 dex is equal to that of 18 dex, so unless you're a missile weapon user i'd sacrifice a point of dexterity. However, if you are using missile weapons, you will incur a -1 To Hit penalty if you go from 19 to 18.

I think not...

IIRC, wish is completely WIS based - the main difference is that you are guaranteed a decent choice on Limited Wish - on Wish, the choices may well all be bad. See UU's cheese guide for all manner of detail.

Of course, you could always forego the stat loss with a little cheese. Highlight to read: Use Spell Immunity: Divination to avoid the bad effects of the test. Cool, eh?

So where would I find UU's cheese guide? I tried the thing you mentioned and it didn't work.

Hold on a minute. Isn't Intelligence the spellcasting stat of Sorcerers in BG2?

Yes, it is. That changed in the next AD&D edition.

Do you mean 3rd Edition by this 'next AD&D edition'? If so, I actually found that out thanks to GameBanshee's Neverwinter Nights section when the game came out.

Yeah, as I recall, sorcs in NWN base their spell knowledge on Charisma.

Well...

INT is nominally the primary stat, but it doesn't actually DO anything for Sorcerors. Check it out, you'll see.

If I've sacrificed my one point of dex, but the spell immunity thing that was mentioned didn't do anything for me. Thus, where can I find UU's cheese guide which outlines the process mentioned above by nephtu?
