High level spells
High level spells
I have a newbie question:
My PC is a mage. So I am quite depended on my spells
Is there any place I can BUY higher level spells (6 and above)?
Or must I find them different places or at people I kill?
If I can not buy them any place, can someone tell me where I can find "Summon Nishruu"?
Thanks in advance

Some spells you'll be able to buy, others you just have to find - whenever you find a new merchant, it's always a good idea to have a quick look at what they have.
As far as some specific merchants - there's one in the back of Ribald's Adventurer's Mart that I know has some high-level spells. There's also a merchant at the north end of the promenade that sells some spells, although I don't remember if there were any good ones there.
Then (minor spoiler) there's a merchant by the gate who's being bullied by someone - if you defend the merchant, he'll offer to sell you things 'at a discount', and as I recall, he had a couple nice scrolls on him. Note that you only get one chance - once you leave the 'store', he walks away.
Beyond that - as I said above, just check out every merchant you meet, and see what they have to offer!

I'm not sure, but..
1. What Morril and Glenfar said... and you might also want to try Trademeet.
2. Nope. They can be bought, but the better high-level ones you'll have to get from monsters and other places. Those can't be bought except at Ribald's (post-Spellhold).
3. I remember seeing a few merchants with them, so it depends on where you are in the game. IMO though, unless you're going solo-mage, nishruu is a waste of space.

Spells (Spoilers
I asked the same question a few weeks back here, and I got some more answers. Highlight to read, it might be spoilerish.
The Adventuremart has some, the wizard in the back has more. Ribald gets some even better scrolls when coming back from the Underdark. The scroll store on the promenade also has some.
Break the no magic law to call down the Cowled Wizards. You'll lose rep, but they sometimes have nice scrolls.
The Blacksmith in Trademeet has some goodies (don't ask me why a blacksmith would have scrolls, but oh well.)
Also, in the Underdark, you come up with against mage named Vithal. Kill him for a few. The dwarves in the Underdark also sell some Imprisonment scrolls. I'm also pretty sure the Dark Elves have some. The merchants probably sell a few, the Deirex Lich probably squirreled away some, too.
Suldanessellar (the Elven City) has some more good ones, but I don't think that helps much in SoA, just because it's so late in the game.That's all I can recall, though. I hope it helps.

Fighting Cowlies (or any pure Mages)
It's actually a bad idea to use the Nishruu Summoning Vs any mage you want to loot because the Nishruu can destroy Magic Items. I'm not sure if that includes Scrolls, but I rather opt for safer strategies.
I usually just retreat my entire party... preferably into another room, then transform myself via Polymorph Self. A Mustard Jelly (by spell, not cloak) is immune to almost anything that mages, liches, and most spellcasters dish out. The only thing to maybe do first is Stoneskin and Prot Evil before transforming. Stoneskin to defend against lesser summons, Prot Evil to keep the fiends at bay. Wait 'til they waste their memorized spells, then call the rest of your party in to slap them a few times.
You might want to check out the Kagnaxx strategy posting on this page, too, for more ideas on Mage Battles...

I found feeblemind against mages very useful (probably not in the later stages of the game, but in the city). I don't know what level you are, but since you're seeking high level spells I assume you're not a beginner
I see that all of the merchants were listed above, so I'm not gonna repeat that. I just give a few useful tips for battling against mages, if you're interested:
So, Khelben's Wharding Whip will make defeating a mage much easier. It not only removes one powerful defense each round but prevents the mage from casting spells, so probalby one of his spells per round will fail. That's cool. Removes all of his spell protection in no time, so he will be vulnerable - now you can lower his MR, and then use one of my favourite spells, Finger of Death (No, I'm not a necromancer! )
Time Stop, of course is the top of all You gain enough time to remove all spell protections, summon monsters, if you want, and so on. But if you face someone who's immune to it, then you're in trouble...
SPOILER-->
The final battle (ToB) with Melissan went really bad b/c I casted Time Stop. She was immune to it, so I stopped all my party members while she could do as much damage to them as she wanted, and conjured up several pit demons... Uh...
Good luck! lol

Khelben's Warding Whip doesn't prevent spellcasting, sorry.
If you're looking for high level spells you should also try Bernard in the Copper Coronet (after you'ver freed the slaves), he has some good spells, too.

After reading the spell description again, I can see U are absolutely right. But anyway, it is still a good spell

I will try that, thanks

Hmm, no it doesn't.
I don't know where you got that from, perhaps it was another spell, item, whatever ?
See Xyx's spell reference for a description of all spells and what they do.

OK, I accept your version, then, you seem pretty sure of what you're saying I say it by my experience, though. Every time I encountered a higher level mage, I used Time Stop and then KWW. Afterwards the spell protections was removed from him (round by round) and some of his spells failed as well. This happened without using any other thing on him (as far as I'm aware) - but then I might be wrong.
Btw, the spell description you gave link to doesn't say much about this spell. I checked the "official" description (here on GameBanshee) and it only mentions the protection removal effect, nothing more. Again, that was just what I experienced...

<spoiler>
I'm sure many people have noticed this, that Bernard holds an infinite supply of prismatic spray scrolls. That means, in ToB, you can max level in a matter of hours after you free Hendak from the Copper Coronet. Just take Jan (Well, I like Jan) to steal a couple hundred scrolls. Then, through scribing and erasing, you can gain 7k exp per scribing of the spell. I just thought I should mention this since you're soloing. I admit, that's a horrible way to play the game, but if you're ever interested in beating the game in the shortest amount of time possible, then I don't see a reason why it wouldn't work. I'm talking game-time, of course.

yes, it does...i've seen it stop certain spellcasting...but you're right...its not consistant, and reliable...
any thing that actually initiates a action once or more a round can disrupt spell casting...(I've always suspected regeneration cast on an enemy will disrupt his spell casting, but its not really a spell to cast on the enemy.. )
much much much more reliable is insect swarm, melf acid arrows, etc...but the real appeal of khelbens is that it fires 3 times, removing 3 spell protections...
the ultimate in spell casting disruption is feeblemind...
feeblemind will even stop forcespell()

I'll admit my error and hide in some corner to cry for a while

Erasing scrolls from your Spell Book is just too cheesy... What's the fun in having maxed your level the very start of SoA? Why don't you just cheat to have more XP if you really want to max out your experience at the beggining.
