Joshi keeps trying to hit me!

Post by Brookster »

hiya

not a big deal really, but I notice that with AI turned on, Yoshi script set to Thief/tracker, at the end of a fight, he starts trying to hit me!

It's kind of funny in a - oh bless you - kind of way [oh, ouch, your 8hp damage is killing me] but any ideas why this is happening? I've got latest patches...

thanks

Congratulation for your new status of Dragon Hunter :D

For Yoshi's problem.. I don't know why he's attacking you. Have you tried to set the AI off?

Did you hit him with an area affect spell? Or maybe while confused? Those scripts usually target the "last person to damage me" - so if you're the last person to damage Yoshi, that could be why he's targetting you ...

You should be able to override it by giving him another command (even if it's just telling him to move somewhere). And that usually stops him from attacking you again.

Although I know I got it stuck once where two of my NPC's kept attacking each other after a battle where one had been confused - I could split them apart, and they'd just go after each other again. I had a save game from before the battle, and just went back to that, so I don't know how to fix it otherwise.

Maybe toggling the AI off/on? Or changing his AI script (you can then try changing it back)? Saving/Reloading the game?

Yoshimo did this to me regularly, as well, on my 1st run-thru. The battle would end, and about 1 time in 4, he would start firing arrows at me (even when no spells were cast). Well, 1 arrow, before I clicked on him at turn end and redirected him. I regularly changed the AI script (once I learned about it). Though I didn't try save/reload, the sporadic cases would happen during the middle of the same playing session.

(SPOILER)

After ch.3, I just figured that it was foreshadowing :D

This is something I've also noticed in my last couple of run throughs. My character have been attacking eachother, it only seems to happen when I've got a script enabled (usually I don't as I like to have complete control over what everyone's doing). It's very annoying, especially when my tanks goes after one of my spell casters with few hitpoints.

I haven't found a way to stop it, sorry. It happens even though I haven't damaged the characters at all. It's strange.

Errr... no.... actually, it was the easy one - shadow dragon. Still a dragon though! Am working up slowly :) I prefer smaller groups too [4 or 5] so want to get up another level or so before I try to tackle firkraag

Anyway, re Yoshi, thanks for comments everyone. Re. Area Affect / confusion spells, point taken, this may have explained certain instances... however, I'm sure sometimes it just happens. It's not a major problem, it just requires a move click [and you're right, turning off AI also does the trick] but was curious, just the same.

Or you can simply set another script.

I never use AI because I think I'm smarter than the computer ;) .

I think Firkraag is easier than Thax.....um.....Shadow Dragon. I can usually kill Firkraag no problems, but I'll usually take quite a bit of damage against Shadow Dragon. I usually take on Shadow Dragon first though, so that might be it.
Anywhere you can find a raving lunatic rambling on about his past and how he received the enlightenment from the toads who hail from the heavens, I'll be there.

And no, I'm not on drugs.

Rebel, that's the way :)

I don't like AI either. I like to command my people and I can't stand anyone starting to fight enemies unless I order him to do so!

agreed; I don't have any scripts running for any of the other characters except for yoshi; for him, I find it handy not to have to remember to keep stealthing him!

Can you create custom scripts? I always wanted to do that for starcraft [et al]... attack [until] 50% hp [or] monster dead [then] stealth etc...

Yes you can. You can get a scripting tool here - that'll make it a little easier. And you can take a look at all the existing scripts to get an idea how to do things.

Personally I use scripts for 'normal' fighting, and do all the spell casting myself. But I did make them a little more intelligent - like if I directed a fighter against a particular enemy, he'd stick with that target. Combine that with an auto-pause when target is gone, and you can basically have complete control over the battle when you want it.

Edit: Oh, and getting rid of the targetting of your last attacker should fix your problem as well!
