BG-Tales of SC-Durlag's Tower-Chessboard

Post by Ruff »

Does anyone have an easy tactic to complete the Chessboard in Durlag's Tower w/o any casualties? I have been successful, but lose at least 1 character. Thanks.

Yes, Begin by moving your top warriors infront of your protagonist (onthe same chess block though) then have your 2 mages use 2 fireball wands repeatidly untill everyone is dead, then march forth carefully with your "bishop" who has free riegn over either white or black tiles, then run back so that he isn't ganked, then continue to fireball, that vaigly how I did it. It was really simple, just have minsc walk forward, me realise I'm going to die, followed by mass use of FB wands .

Good luck man, this is I guess the hardest fight in ToSC, its pretty simple.

me0w: Thanks for the note. I actually only have 1 mage and I have tried fireballs (mage )and exploding potions (fighter). I feel like I have tried all options, even backstabbing the king with my theif, to no avail. I've had tough fights before and won't give up, but it's getting frustrating...

Hmm, well sorry it didn't succeed.

I'm wondering what level your at, my party was at 6-7 when we did the board. With your mage, use fireball wands, with your fighters (2 main ones, say Minsc and Kaigan) have them stand infront of your "king", then set all archers and mages back, then summon with your clerics LOTS of skeletons, also, use sleep wands with your warriors, doing these things should aleviate you of the problem with pawns, then send 1 warrior at each bishop, with the aid of everyone else, eliminate one bishop at a time, then the king and queen will fall easily, hope this helps, its the same thing pretty much, just more specific.

Are you talking about an expansion part, or is this scene in the original game?

Brynn - Durlag's Tower is part of the 'Tale of the Sword Coast' expansion pack.

I'm still stuck on the first level of the labyrinth...
I have the grapes and the starter... but how on earth do I activate the engine?

[edit - got it.... they could have made it a lot less subtle.]

Cheers.

Thanks again. What actually worked for me was to cast protection from magic on all characters and then fireball, pause, fireball pause, potion of explotion, etc. There were only a couple left that were easy to finish the job...

Ahh, the joy of fireballs. By the way, a great thing to do, which for some reason, over about 4 times clocking BG1, and 3 on #2, I never realised how good wands are, I now carry atleast 5 fireball wands on my mage, I never need magic missiles or fireballs (seeming as they do both fireball and azcans schorcher) stock up on them :D

Well good luck with the rest of ToSC, its pretty easy (chessboard is one of the hardest bits.)
