Are you soloing or using a party? If you have a party, cast true sight BEFORE he turns into a dragon, or else he'll slaughter you while he's invisible. After I did this I was eventually able to surround him with my three hasted, whirlwinded tanks and smash him before he killed anyone. I doubt most solos could take him out fast enough, but a kensai/mage with PFMW might work, possibly others, I haven't got that far in a solo so I'm not sure. Slowing or feebleminding would be good but his resistances and saves are good and he has spell deflection, so you'll need lower resistance, malison/doom and a spell protection remover.
Note: dolorous decay, level 6 druid spell, automatically slows without a save.

To get him to his dragon form, have your melee characters whirlwind attack him until he's there. Casting Horrid Wilting on him is a good idea, too.
When he turns into a dragon, have two of your mages both have Spell Triggers ready, of Pierce Magic (level 6 spell), Breach, and Lower Resistance. Fire them off right after his initial protections go up, and while your tanks are repeatedly whirlwinding him, have your mages try and cast high damage spells, since his MR is now void. Also, you might need to cast Breach again if you don't kill him outright.
Worked for me, at least. I had to try multiple times before his breath kept gibbing Aerie or another character. The time I did it, though, I had him down in under a single round after he changed into a dragon (and he DID get his heal off and his protections).

True Sight is a must before facing him.
Then, if you have a cleric or two (anoweenie or aerie or viccy) cast lower resistance twice on him, then doom and malison. If you can enfeeble him it will help too. Then cast Harm, and wack him. He shall not have save for that, and voila... have your bum leg fighter to wack him with a sword and his head is on the ground.
But the hard way works too. Kick his posterior until he tires and he'll go down sooner or later.

Here's my way of killing Draconis, works about 9/10 of the time. Keep in mind this is if you have fighters and mages on your party.
As soon as Draconis turns in to a dragon get all your fighters to start pummeling him on the side torwards the door, make sure that if Draconis were to Wing Buffet you you'd go right at the door. Get your spellcasters on the other side of him a safe distance away and cast at your leisure. If all goes well Draconis should Wing Buffet your fighters, and if all goes well, they should go right into the doorway to Abazigals stronghold. As this is happening, move you mages back so that the closest thing to Draconis is still your fighters. As long as you keep your fighters from moving from the inside of the doorway, Draconis should run in to attack you. Soon after, (if your spellcasters are still far enough away) he should summon invisible stalkers next to the fighters, but since there is absolutely no room, they should appear around Draconis instead, thus pinning him inside the doorway. With Draconis pinned inside he will not have chance to cast anything and run away because your fighters are still pummeling him, for that matter heal himself. Sure a few of your fighter might die, but who cares?

i have a party of 6(the usual)got two tanks (me and minsc) got two clerics (viconia and jaheira) and two mages (imoen and aerie) i think my mistake now is that i have backed out the screen and whenever i come back he's there!! so i dont get much chance to cast any spells if i do it in amketheran then my spells are worn out in the journey to abagizals lair!! i went to sendai's enclave to get away for a bit as i was getting quite angry with that part of the game but even after all that he's still waiting for me!!!(i think he can smell my fear) anyway more suggestions would be good!!!!

Fire up contingencies. Load up on buffs and drink spells as soon as you get there. And be sure to run with a mage and cast True Sight, or you are as good as dead.
And cheese. Cheese a lot. UUnfriendly cheeseguide is a nice help. There is a link to the guide on one of the stickies thread (SoA reference or some like that.)

I haven't played TOB in over a year, so I'm not sure how well this works in the expansion. I'm currently on my third or fourth time through the game (like I said though, first in over a year) and I'm at the end of SOA. Something I have a very heavy magic party, and what I figured out to be an extremely easy way to kill the dragons in SOA is to first have one mage cast breach and have my other 3 cast lower magic resistance. While my fighters keep him busy pounding away, I have my 4 mages unleash a barrage of magic missiles and the fight is over almost before it starts. I killed all 3 SOA that way and never lost a party member. I had one guy take about 50% damage against the shadow dragon and that was about it. I don't think the dragon in suldenessalar even hit me once. Anyways, that's a new strategy I used in SOA, but I'm not sure how well it will work in TOB as the enemies are much tougher.
I do remember Draconis as being the hardest dragon I fought from previous runthroughs too, so good luck .

Anywhere you can find a raving lunatic rambling on about his past and how he received the enlightenment from the toads who hail from the heavens, I'll be there.
And no, I'm not on drugs.

Draconis gets a bit harder for that technique, even though is a good one. So, try casting Wizard eye and using the high damage level wands (like wand of lighting) as well. He is tougher than his father, for sure.

Lee, I see you've become obsessed, too Great Why did you kill Salarex? That's the stupid dragon in WK, right? He was soo dumb and narrow-minded I just didn't have the heart to hurt him Poor thing is so pathetic, I felt so sorry for him that I didn't even mind the xp his killing would've brought me

All you need is one high-level mage Cast Mirror Image and perhaps PFMW, distract him with monsters (a planetar worked for me), and cast 2x lower resistance, greater malison, pierce magic and breach. Then fire 2 spell triggers (cast the second directly after you used the 1st one) filled with skull traps. With a lvl 34 mage, you have a theoretical chance (if he fails his save 6 times) to do 224d6 damage...
Mix with Timestop + Improved Alacrity to get maximum results.

Thus you missed the chance to teach an arrogant dragon a lesson and you didn't get the Staff of the Ram +6.Lee, I see you've become obsessed, too Great Why did you kill Salarex? 12 hours in one weekend
I think there are people on this forums who aren't satisfied if they don't play BG2 for 12 hours a day
Welcome to the forums btw, seems like you also got the BG-microbe! The next step is buying the budget edition of Planescape Torment, the Icewind Dale series, perhaps Neverwinter Nights, and then green bubbles appear on your head who explode after a while and unleash a horde of small parasites who eat your brains away. After that Buck comes to take your skeleton and practice his evil Necromania on you, and then you finally are a true GameBanshee member!

Sounds like an acceptable future for me!
I'd love to play 12 hours a day, but meaningless things like work and boyfriend take the rest of my time... When will they ever learn.. Just kidding, of course, the latter is really important for me (though I'd love to skip the previous one... )
Just take care of your eyes, Lee
Moltovir, what does that latin text in your signature mean? I could figure out the word "beast" and I got stuck...
