Dark, everyone here just doesn't like all the abbreviated poo and made up stuff that floats around in cyber-space, that's all they're saying. Stuf lyk dis annoys the crap out of most people, including me. And the one thing that gets me the most... All these kids, 11 years old and so on, always talk like that, and I don't understand why they can't just learn the right way the first time. I myself am a pretty speedy typer, and I keep my abbreviation-using to a limit, for one reason because I am much more easily understood than if I typed in all abbreviations. Heck, I don't even use "lol". One thing that bothers me about my typing is my habbit of saying "dunno" or "wanna", but those aren't really that annoying. The most annoying, I think, is the numbers and symbols mixed in with all the purposely misspelled things. I have slight OCD, too, so this stuff probably annoys me more-so than others. Anyways... There's my opinion, even though it's been stated many many times before by others. And I can tolerate that kind of typing when it's one-on-one in IM or something, but it annoys me to no end when people create threads and type like that. And I highly disagree with your last post... Respect should be shown to all, and not just those of authority.

Your choice, but if you can't respect people here enough to speak standard English, than in return don't expect respect or replies to your posts.

Legitimate spelling mistakes are one thing, but you have made it clear that you *choose* to communicate in this manner. That is your perogative, but don't complain if you are ignored or not taken seriously.

I think there's a time and place for everything. I wouldn't mind it in a FPS deathmatch, or in certain forums, but in GameBanshee I think it's good to show some articulation as most here will ignore your post if it doesn't show a degree of "grown up talk". I think that's what everyone's been trying to say, that for a lot, they can't be bothered trying to understand something that doesn't come firsthand for them. Not everyone here plays CS or plays online.

There's nothing wrong about it, persay, but it's almost like what you go into the public looking like; If you go out wearing normal clothes, as opposed to rags, people will treat you differently. People will treat you differently if you're dressed like a "thug" then when you're dressed like a "preppy". It's all about your image (how you're perceived) and you're welcome to do what you want with it (it's your choice), however some people feel more strongly about it than others. Just letting you know.

Give no respect - and you earn none in return.

I must admit that the only reason I read such posts as this on GB is that I'm a moderator and thus should read it.
On any other forum, posting in such languages would be ignored by me "plonking" the user - ie: the ignore filter.

As for slang - I can understand that - however - one thing you forget, is that slang is used amongst a sub-culture/sub-group, your FPS/RTS crowd for instance. But when posting in "slang" outside that setting you are subjecting yourself to interpretations such as lazyness, "leet"/script-kiddie and similar.

Formality is as I mentioned not the only concern. Being understood is another. Will you have no objection when your posts are removed in the Morrowind forums because I get PM'd complaints regularly about their unintelligibility?

I already said I'll be more formal and speak in full proper sentences in GB and SYM. What more can I do to make me more formal?

I probably didn't phrase my point clearly. I was inquiring whether formality vs informality is the only way in which you see the issue, or whether being generally understood matters, as well. Unless by "formality," you mean "communicating via standard English."

Well, for example, would it really be too much to ask that you rephrase posts such as the above?

Even if you are only twelve it is not difficult to write:
"Alright I said I won't speak slang as much, what are you asking from me?"



And if this is difficult, I seriously have to question the quality of the schooling you have thus far received.....

If somebody is dyslexic, or if English is not a person's mother tongue, misspelled words and grammatical errors are understandable. However, you have plainly stated that you write in this appalling manner by choice.

Let me try rephrasing, once more. Illegibility has become a sort of subculture slang on the Web, and you see it in terms of "formality vs informality." But do you also see it in terms of "understanding from everybody vs just reaching a few friends"?

sorry didnt realize what i said. I said That right after waking up, and i didn't chek my riting after i rote it because i was dizzy because i took a little nap because i woke up very early this morning, hehe, excitement got the best of me because today is my birthday ... wot i meant to say was "I'm speaking properly now what more do you want!?" what came out was "alright i said i wont spea slang on like as much... WHAT'RE YOU ASK FROM ME!!?" I dont no y i said it like that but wot i said has been said... i hope this edit will change my image

P.S. I know these sentences dont even make sense(i don think they make sense because it too many "because"s) and i'm sry but i'm not feeling well rite now so i am not going to change it and I DON'T HAVE DISLEXIA OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT! did it really seem like that... man i must of been pretty drowsy anyway my point is i'm not stupid or anything like that, i'm actually in an advanced class

when i said spamming i also said ",I think that's spam,isn't it" ensuring the fact that i was unsure if that was spamming or not. honestly wot i ment to say is *no offense* stop makin me feel stupid please. and even if your not trying to make me feel stupid just ummm... well i guess your right... u do fit my guidelines... so forget everything i said before and take this fact into consideration *I was wrong (I think) and you were right (again, I Think?)
