 Why is the Bard/Rogue ability, 'Use magic Device' tied to charisma? That makes as much sense to me as it does to have Sorcery tied to Charisma... I would just stick it on the Lore side of the house. If you Lore is high enough, not only do you have a chance to identify an item, you could also use any item. Or, If they insist on keeping it Charisma based, let Paladins get the 'Use Magic Device' ability also.

Well, Use Magic Device is to see how well you are at "faking" being able to use magic..and rogues/bards are good at that. Paladins just aren't good at faking anything, lol

Exactly. Which is why its charisma based.

As for sorceror's magic being tied to charisma, consider the difference between a wizard and a sorceror. A wizard is an old quiet little man (typically) that is very learned in magic and the study of magic. Hence his magic being taken from intelligence.

A sorceror however is, perhaps, more of a magical "upstart", someone (IMO) who looks upon magic as an art, not a study. Hence the charisma based magic :)

EDIT: Paladin's with a UMD skill would probably be a bit unbalanced. They already have some magic anyway (I know bards do, but I'm getting to that!). I think the Paladin is a very "down the middle" class. They are good fighters, have some magic, and I'm sure they had bonuses against evil/undead. Give em much more useful skills, and they'd probably be a bit too powerful.
