Hi all.
What does the Guard Action do?
I’ve only been playing BG2 for about a week now, so excuse the newbie question. I’ve searched the forums and can’t find any reference to it. The BG2 rulebook mentions the action, but doesn’t explain what it does.
Thanks

The Guard Action
"That's because I killed him." "Hm. That was very proactive of you." SWKotOR2
The Guard button has two uses:
guard an area - when you press the button, then muve the pointer to some place on the ground, a circle will appear. you can establish a sort of "defensive perimeter" with this circle, adjusting it's size - the char will attack any hostile entering the defined area.
guard a character - press the button, then point to a creature (your party, summoned, neutral, even enemy). the "guarding" char will attack anyone phisically attacking that creature (not casting spells on him).
the attack will be executed with the weapon the char currently holds, unless his script calls for a change of weapons.
one thing to know about Guard action is that it will work to the weapons' maximum range, which for bows, crossbows and slings is GREATER than visual range - so it can work like BVR artillery: as soon as your scout/summon is attacked, make the archers Guard him - they'll probably start shooting right away.
oh, and it will work around corners and THROUGH CLOSED DOORS...
