One of the people who pm'ed me saying they wanted an account never pm'ed me back when I asked for their e-mail...
So in conclusion: check your pm's.

Vicsun, I certainly agree with your assertion that you are an unpleasant person. ~Chanak
You do realise that each person that you gave an invite to gets 6 invites. And I also heard that it is possible to re-invite yourself and get another 6 invites. And I also have a few invites left.
"Heya! Have you been to Baldur's Gate? I've been to Baldur's Gate... Oops, stepped into something. Have you stepped into something?"
Thanks man. Thanks alot.
It takes a few weeks before you get your invites.
I was under the impression that invites were random...
Still, if in fact you do officially get six invites a few weeks after receiving your account, I will certainly be able to put them to good use.
A friend to whom I sent my new account address, asked me in some surprise and awe how I had managed to obtain a Gmail account. He tells me that when Gmail first went live people with accounts were apparently auctioning them off on EBay lol!

Out of curiosity I actually looked at ebay, and they were going for a tad over $1 - not exactly enough to make the hassle worthwhile IMO

Well I didn't look myself, I just found it entertaining Even if there was a decent going rate for the things, I probably wouldn't have the energy or motivation to go through that kind of hassle..
I didn't realise, though, that these accounts were such a coveted item; I've already received several requests for invites I don't even have yet

I have six more invites up for grabs! If anyone is interested, or if anyone knows anyone who is interested, ask. If I get no requests by the time the thread goes to page two, I'll just donate all of them to the gMail invite spooler (see below).
In the meantime you can check this site out: there are currently 3 invites available, but the number seems to be changing every time I hit refresh (it was 3 then it went to zero then to two then to 3 in about a minute).

Change thread title ?
I'm wondering if maybe a mod would change the title of this thread to something like "Gmail Invites."
I have pretty much handed out all of my invites, but at some point I will likely get more. And of course as more people here at GB get Gmail accounts, the invites will increase exponentially..

Dont use Googles mail for anything sensitive just yet. Word on the grapevine is that their implementation is sub-par when it comes to security and privacy of your mail.
My guess is that they got some hotshot consultants with limited experience on the Internet service side that are now learning very quickly the hard way what you can go public with. Give them a month to sort out the worst of their bugs and they'll be fine.
I think the "launch when its good enough"-mentality is really hurtful for the industry, and is one of the main reasons for the shabby reputation most ISPs have.
Edit: As much as I hate to give added hits to israeli websites, they do have an edge in computer security (and they're not all evil murderers) Link

I'm using a netscape account that is both very reliable and recently jumped from the "standard" 5mb to 250 mb. I guess that is very good already but one gb... is really more than I expected.
Well, we have to see how many advertises will they send us too, cause if I receive 10mb of advert every day things will get bad even with 1gb space.

I'm kind of confused about that comment (even if we assume thier government's policies are evil, what has giving hits to a site owned by someone not affiliated with the government have to do with anything what does giving hits to any site have to do with anything?), but regardless, here is a theRegister story about the same isssue.
Re: the exploit - as far as I understand the attacker needs to obtain a cookie in order to gain access. So unless you actually send the cookie you're safe. The other alternative is for the attacker to get your cookie from a public terminal after you've checked your e-mail, but everyone remember to log-out at those, right?
Not that you should ever send anything extremely sensative using webmail, or even e-mail in general, mind you.

Umm... 'they' won't 'send' you any adverts. Actually you don't even get banners. You only get text-based ads, which will drain a lot less bandwidth than images and are a lot less obtrusive. Not to mention they occasionally offer pretty good deals.
</pockets check from google>

Hits = Advertisement = Money = Net influx to state of Israel = Support of nation. Quite inefficient protest but in the long run, money (or the lack thereof) is the only thing that will have an effect on their politics. As for evil, I guess that's a matter of opinion. I would say unethical, but evil is such a catchy word Im looking forward to the day when the US look through their national budget and say: "Hey, heres a couple of billion in spending. If we cut those its balanced".

No, Hotmail is no wonder of security either. My warning is definitely not one to support going back to those morons. Just wait with sending the nude pictures to your girlfriend a couple of weeks or they might end up in the amateur section of some seedy websites...
Yes you need a cookie, but there are cross site scripting tricks for getting it off the users computer remotely. That's where the security hole is, not in the actual cookie.
