He should be there right from the beginning - you should be able to find him standing near the bar ...

As i recall, the man's name, whom you start the quest with, isn't Firkraag, it's something like Jordan etc, he'll be standing/sitting in fron of the counter.
The closer you get to the Light, the larger your Shadow becomes.

DK, you might want to hold off the firkagg fight, unless you scam the game, I'd say its the hardest fight in the game (normally I fight him on a fairly low level, with alot of reloads) But because you were struggling with UmberHulks I don't think its worth chasing him up. A little tip. Talk to EVERYONE who has a name that is beyond "commoner", "peasant" or "nobleman". Anyone else should always be spoken to. Everybuilding should be entered. By doing this you will get LOTS of quests, and by getting all the quests you will gain experience. There are so many small quests you should do throughout the city of Athkatla before you venture out of its gates. Although ofcourse there are MANY difficult battles in Athkatla.

Hehe my thoughts exactly =]

SPOILER ? ? ? ? ? dunno might be

I usually do all those quests early.
Hehe I did Kangax and Shangalar (spelling?), when my party was like lvl 11. I believe that is fairly early, might be wrong though.
Took ALOT of saves hehe, but it was worth it in the end, while it makes you much more powerful

Considering the extra items you get from Shangalar and Kangaxx the Demi-Lich, you might feel a bit overpowered when fighting fairly low "bosses". These enemies might have been worth the fight when you didn't have a thief with staff of mangi backstab backstab and backstab :) . I prefer doing these rather difficult quests at a level of 13/14 :)

You can't backstab with staff of the magi :)

but can you use the staff of the magi to go invisible and then hide in the shadows in relative safety?

"You can't backstab with staff of the magi"

Why not, You can backstab with staffs, I don't think staff of magi would be any different. Although I really don't know. Perhaps it is different. But staffs can be backstabbed with. (only 2 handed wepeon that can!)

Weapons equipped with Use Any Item can not be backstabbed with. It has to be useable by the thief at the start.
