I'm not sure that the game registres the cd-key in the registry actually. But I have no way of checking now - because I'm at work.

It might be possible/helpful to contact Bioware Support to hear what your options are in this case.

Option A) "the hard way"
Make a tiny new module (just one room) with the toolset and -manually- place all the items that your old chara had on the floor next to the spawnpoint. The actual module-making is extremely easy, the only tedious part is manually dropping all the equpiment from the big list. Once you've finished putting in all the items you need, start that module with your new chara, grab the stuf and then export him again. É voila, you didnt "transfer" the items, but your new chara will have them regardless.

Option B) "go true multi"
Ask a friend to open an internet game, connect via IP with one chara, throw everything on the floor, log off - then log on with your new chara and grab the stuff.

Option C) "go fake multi"
You'll probably need quite a machine for this, but I've seen it being done, so I know it is possible - if you have a cooperative NWNversion and your firewall is well-configured, that is.
Launch NWN, open a multi game with the DM Client. Jump back to desktop and launch a second instance of NWN (note:impossible with some patches). Log in to your own server with the second chara and make the exchange...

Erm... no... you got me wrong.
You have to manually place all the items in there with the toolset. :)

Meaning you look at your old chara and then write a little list of the items that he has (on a sheet of paper). Then you launch the toolset+module and drop the desired items into the module directly from the complete item list in the toolset.

That's why I called it the "hard way". ;)

Granted, it's a bit tedious, but it works. Especially if you limit yourself to the important stuff and ignore knick-knacks like scrolls, potions etc.
