Beyala's events. SPOILERS

Post by ajdaha »

I just found out how to get Juhani on my team, but i had already killed her ages ago on Danto(how is it spelt?) with my Charisma oriented character.
This is my first post on a Board conserning KOTOR. So here are some questions i've been searching the answers for:

1)Beyala leaves the Enclave after you kill Juhani. I spoke to the little green (Yoda-like guy). He told me this. Now I want to know if there is anything i can do to find her, maybe get her on my team, cause i feel bad about killing Juhani now, so maybe i can do something to compensate?

2)My character has absolutely no interest in physical combat so I gave him two lightsabers (normal and short) with one +5 deflection each. I think the name was Sigil, or Bondar. Does this give me +10 deflaction in total or not?
What else affects the deflection level?

3)Can someone tell me for sure what charisma ads bonuses to. Spells and all?

4) Finally, my charcter has the most charismatic points possible. I just invested one ability enhance point into wisdom to make it a full number, cause i didn't need the extra charisma point as it would ultimatly result in my guy having an odd charisma modifier number (which is useless as there are no items that enhance charisma, not counting FPowers). So can someone tell me what major decisions you make during gameplay that are affected by persuade options? I mean I'm in Manaan and so far Force persuade doesn't work on the Judges as they are somehow above it. I found out that only the sequence of lines that you say can hep you for example,,, spoiler: get to stay in Manaan after choosing the Dside way underwater.

I hope i didn't waste a potetially great Force Power oriented charcter by dumping points in charisma?

PS: at creation I had a 3.5 bonus to Wisdom. And a 4 bonus to charisma. which left all my other stats, which i consider useless to me at a minus. Now i have a plus 4 bonus to Wis and a plus 5 to charisma. By the end of the game my guy shall be at plus 6 charisma. Every possible Skill point invested into persuade and ofcourse have Empathy maxed out and Dominate Mind. Currently he is a

[1) you cant get beleya to join you. and dont worry about juhani. she can help bit, but there are other characters that will help you out.

2)you should get the +10. the other way to increase that skill is in your feat selection. its one of the force power passive feats.

3)i cant remember what charisma adds to, but there are a butt load of force powers that it adds to, as well as the persuade skill. if you have the manual you can read the force powers descriptions which will tell you what attributes affect them.

4)persuade is not the most useful skill. actually, a lot of people dont think skills are really important at all. the selkath judges seem to be immune to force powers. there are a few selkath you can use force powers on though. all in all, i wouldnt put any points into persuade, especially if you're darkside

+4 to wisdom is pretty decent, and with +6 to charisma some of your force powers will have +10 mods :) itll prolly get you through the game.

i've never tried keeping all stats at 8 except wisdom and charisma...let me know how it works out.

Thanks for the answers, althought i am left wondering wheather I shall find Belaya later on in the game, or is it just that she is gone forever?

PS: At charcter creation I did put 1 point into dexterity because I was left with it and couldn't do anything else with it. The modifier was still at -1 though. It is pretty easy to play this like that ones you become a jedi, but on Taris it is pretty hard if you're saving levels. Partially, because the skills you did put points in to (wisdom and charisma) are useless to you.
I'll tell you how hard/easy it was to finnish the game when i do.

the modifier works like this...every two points, it gives you +1 to the actual dice rolls..

for example, 8 in a stat like dexterity, will give you -1. you need 10 points to have it be +/-0 points, 12 points to get +1 and so forth.

it has been shown that boosting wisdom is generally better...for example, i like 16 wis and 14 cha, because i still get 10 points worth of bonuses, which means +5 to offensive force rolls, like using fear, but also get +3 instead of +2 defensively....14 wis will give you +2 to will saves, but 16 wis will give you +3.

your choice of 16 cha and 14 wis will give you +5 offensively, since a fear attack will use both cha and wis modifiers, but defensively, you're going to want 14 cha and 16 wis since you get a better will save bonus. (+3 instead of +2)

so when you got 9 dex, you actually got the same modifier as 8 dex...wasting a point.

wow...that is really a powerful force user...but almost useless for anything else...now i have a new build in mind that has great combat offensive abilities, and force offensive abilities, and low dex, int and con..

a guardian who can use good force powers, but really kicks as a pure fighter...

i am assuming you're using the 8,8,8,9,18,17 pattern i've been recently tested, and discarded...i am very fond of the 15,14,8,8,16,14 pattern...but may be trying out a new pattern, one without negative scores, and great stats in str and wis.

(str is better as a pure fighter, since unless you get really high dex, your defenses are still going to be close to base...unless you get 6 levels of scoundrel, and get improved scoundrel luck, +4 to defense is equal to dex of 18......str is +1 to damage and +2 to hit for lightsabre, which means that for a counselor/sentinel, with max of 15 base attack bonus at level 20, str is going to be more important than dex in many ways.) :D

Well, even though this means that my guy isn't the best Force user I could make him, atleast I will achieve something by the end of Kotor. With this guy I shall have completed the game for the first time and it is good to think that I have done something which I don't think anyone has yet done. Of course if I had the PC version I could have gotten the +3 to charisma as i would have been pure good. I'm evil right now. And also I would not have put in that 1 ability increase point into wisdom, so my charisma level would be at +8. My Wisdom modifier would be 3.5 but there are plenty of items that add odd bonuses to wisdom in the game, I hope. My guy is a good role-play character cause he looks really funny (all evil, so he has white eyes. I have that bold Chinees.ish looking guy. No offence meant to anyone).

here's a question for anyone who wants to answer it:
Double bladed lightsabers have 2 non-colour crystal slots. So, I hear that what ever crystal is in it shall have its effect doubled since there are infact two blades. I don't know how this works but should this mean that if I place a +5 to deflection crystal in one then I should get +10 deflection. That would make the most sence (2 blades=easier to deflect laser bullets). However I think I've tested this once and all I got was a normal +5 to deflection on my saber.

PS: Do I getto talk to Belaya again or has no-one else tried this path of killing Juhani (cause of my ignorance). it says in your Quest log, i think - "Belaya has been seen leaving the Enclave". What is this?
I want to get to the bottom of it before "Dantoine's ass is grass" (as they say).

the reason to get double bladed lightsabres...

first, they do more base damage. its like an extra crystal, they naturally do more damage per hit, so if your preference, like me is to get the most damaging weapons, its all good...

you rarely have more than one of the most powerful crystals in the game, solari upari crystals...so it makes sense to put them into the best weapons you got...

but if you get two single lightsabres, or a regular and short one, and have dual wielding feats, you can put one blaster deflection crystal into each lightsabre and totally make blaster users cry... :D :D

That's all good, but what if I do not wish to put any feat points into dual wielding. Will I still get a +10 deflection bonus. The reason i carry the dual weapons without the feat is because i want the deflection bonus, I rarely do physical combat.

Also is it true that dual sabers get bonuses from both, dueling and two weapon fighting? Just wondering. I'm currently joggling my Xbox and PC. One to play, another to respond in the forums, its a good excercise.

The crystals you put in a double-blades saber work the same as if you put it in a normal saber. But with a double-blades saber you do 2x 2-20 damage base, if I remember correctly. With two normal sabers you do 2x 2-16 damage and with a normal and a short saber you do 1x 2-16 damage and 1x 2-12 damage. The double-wielding feat is for both dual-bladed sabers and two sabers. The dueling and double-feat don't stack, since dueling works only, if you use one single-handed saber, at least in the German PC-version.

What stacks, however, is if you use one single-handed saber, have saber-wielding maxed and dueling maxed.

And I think persuade IS the most useful skill, since none other in you party can use it at will. All other skills can used by your partymembers with one exception concerning HK-47. And with persuade, although you get mostly light-points, you also get more experience for certain quests.

Then you wouldn't even need dual-wielding at all, use a deflection saber when spamming force-powers and switch to an attack saber when forced to use your saber for combat.

There is no reason to need Two-Weapon-Fighting to be able to use two blades with deflection crystals, twf only reduces the attack penalties that are incurred for wielding two weapons. Nothing else.

But, though I can't confirm this from personal experience (I don't care much about deflection, sabers are for hitting things), I have read that deflection crystals in seperate sabers do not stack, the highest value is used. You can probably experiment with this yourself, since you don't need twf to wield 2 deflection sabers.

Dual weapons, and dual-bladed weapons, do not get the dueling bonus. Whithout the two-weapon-fighting feats (maxed out) wielding dual blades the reduced chance to hit will impact the damage enough to cancel the effect of the additional attack, more so if you use speed to increase the number of main-hand attacks.

Even with two-weapon fighting feats, the penalty for using a regular blade in the offhand cancels the damage advantage of the regular blade against the short one.
i am assuming you're using the 8,8,8,9,18,17 pattern i've been recently tested, and discarded...i am very fond of the 15,14,8,8,16,14 pattern...but may be trying out a new pattern, one without negative scores, and great stats in str and wis.

I am not fond of these unbalanced builds, they make a large sacrifice for very little benefit, as any point you add after 14 costs two, so every additional modifier you gain beyond +2, costs two elsewhere. And unfortunately, pushing Wis and Cha to even unreasonable levels still doesn't get the chance of a successfull force attack high enough against the likes of Malak. It is, off course, fun against most other opponents.

Only strength and intelligence could be left at 8, or 10, all other attributes are important

Str: not neccesary, attack can be boosted through dexterity
Dex: needed for defense and attack
Con: you need a decent con to save against critical hits, in particular those of Malak,
Int: not neccesary, though lots of skills are fun.
Wis: important for effective use of force powers and defense against them.
Cha: important for effective use of force powers
... (str is better as a pure fighter, since unless you get really high dex, your defenses are still going to be close to base...
26 in dexterity is +8 to defense, it is also +8 to attack (if this is higher then strength) and +8 to reflex saves.

As to how much strength modifiers improve your attack, I have seen contradictionary reports on that, some say +2 per modifier, some say +1. Whatever it is, whith dex maxed out near 30, decent crystals and char build, you'll have a suffucently high chance to hit for any opponent you'll face, approximately 35 on attack is sufficient, even with a non-guardian jedi.
... you can put one blaster deflection crystal into each lightsabre and totally make blaster users cry... :D :D
Blaster users usually don't get the time to cry :D

How can i test the deflection rate.
Should i just go into fights against the same enemy repeatedly and record how many hits i take? At any rate, i would be happy if someone gave me a definate answer on the stacking of deflection bonuses. I really hope they do stack.

PS:I would just like to say that this startegy I use when commiting all my leveling enhances to a certain ability or stat is one that I have been using as long as I can remember. Unfortunately my search for pure perfection of such skills usually forces me to restart my games all the time because my guy is never what i was hoping for him to be. And this means that I almost never finnish a game. I'll try to finnish Kotor though, since there had not been a single time that I had acuired the Lightning storm spell (if thats what its called). Also I had never achieved that Death Field spell. You know, the dark version of Heal. So, I don't wish this strategy apon anyone since it can be awfully time consuming and is rather irritating because of this. However It does make you happy if you've achieved something special by the end of the journey, I'm guessing.

I have no idea why I just typed all this out, but whatever.

I reckon you can find the effect of blaster deflection measures in the feedback screen, with the rest of the d20 combat breakdown. Statiscal analyses of the number of hits you take would be an alternative option, though it would require a lot of patience :)

I expect that, as with boosting defense and attack, at some point further investment in bbd will no longer result in noticably better results. The problem is off course to find that point, you'll need some feedback from the game for that

Secondly, the blaster users usually do not have enough attack to stand a decent chance of hitting, and blasters don't do a lot of damage (especially with IER active). The only advantage I see for bbd over defense is the effect it has on the unfortunate blaster users.

I stumbled on something called PCGen (pcgen.sourceforge.net) which appears to be a tool to help the development of RPG characters, but I doubt it is usable for KotOR. I can see some fun in creating such special characters, though I like to see a game like KotOR played to the end, it does have a story beyond the RPG character. And I guess, every character has to be able to complete the final trial.

i think malaksbane is a balanced person...rarely put anything above 14, cause using two points to get above 14 is just a waste...

a philosophy i actually agree with, however, I am a big fan of boosting some attributes above 14 to get mondo bonuses...

15, 10,10,10,16, 14 is my new favorite...only 6 points consumed to give me a point in str, and two points in wisdom...put all five earned points in strength...giving me +5 str, and +5 in force powers, offensively!!!(+3 will saves)

sure, it would be better to get 20 points in wis, instead of spreading it out in wis and cha modifiers, but lets be realistic here...its much cheaper in points this way...

no dex...but a level 6 scoundrel dual to jedi gives you improved scoundrel luck, which is +4 defense, or the equal of 18 dexterity...(urm...i cheat, so i am level stopped at 4, with master scoundrel luck, which gives me +6 to defense...or the equal of 22 dex...without the reflex saves, but that's ok, with guardians..)

now the reason why i think that some people say str is +1 to attack per point, is because with melee weapons, its +1 to attack and damage per point..but when you use a lightsabre, it changes to +2 to attack and +1 to damage...

now i have read somewhere that two blaster deflection crystals will stack with master jedi defense to make you not only invulnerable to ranged fire, but when your blaster defense score+level is over 10 points above the defense of your enemy, it will not only deflect the blaster fire, but send it right back at them...and you can put two lightsabers with blaster deflect crystals on a consular with no dual wield skills, and it will stack just fine..just don't expect to hit much...however due to the two bladed bug, a jedi with no points in dual wield can use a two bladed light sabre without penalties, just ignore the stats reported in your inventory screen. :D

i really understand ajdaha's view point..since i too search constantly for the ultimate build...and i think i've just found it...using many many cheats, (i am very naughty) i've successfully crammed in everything i want, and gotten maximum minimum goodness..

no weaknesses, and two abilities magnified to uber levels....+5 offensive force, +5 damage, +10 attack...

even without cheating, this build is seriously more powerful than many builds...

6 scoundrel, to replace dex bonuses with improved scoundrel luck, and either counselor or guardian...and this allows me to put major attribute points into wis, cha at the beginning, and boost str to 20 points..my view is if you choose economical use of attribute points, you're not going to excell at anything...

so i deliberately magnified the two abilities that have the most powerful attribute boosting items...

dominator gauntlets, and star forge robes have the best bonuses in the xbox game, without yavin station...+5 to str and wis..

so using the stats above, i've created a force user and warrior that can best use these two items to get some very high bonuses to fighting and force using...without weaknesses (negative modifiers) in the other stats...   :D

So you do get +2 to attack for every strength modifier. Why is this so rarely noted, or is this another difference between XBox and PC?
And when does the game decide to prefer either dex or str? When the attack bonus is higher, or the attribute modifier?

There is also the CNS strength Enhancer for an additional +2 to strength, but, for a LS character, Revan's Robes ad restricted to DS, so no boost on that front.

Now, if I were going for a strength attacker (LS) with Dominator Gauntlets, CNS Strength Enhancer, Advanced Alacrity Implant, Circlet of Saresh and QD-Robes.

Str: 14 + 5 + 2 = 21 + 3 level up = 24, or +14 to attack, +7 to damage
Dex: 14 + 5 = 19 + 1 = 20 or +5 to defense
Wis: 14 + 5 + 2 = 21 + 1 = 22

This does look like a nice place to start a build with.

I do want some investment in defense and I don't cheat a +6 to defense on my characters. Cheating in Master Scoundrel's Luck basically means you think that your defense is too low without it, right?

With Dex otoh,
Dex: 14 + 5 + 3 + 2 = 24 + 4 = 28 +9 to attack and defense
Wis: 14 + 5 + 2 = 21 + 1 = 22

Attack is not as high, but defense is better (and without cheating) and I get the 4 points from strength to put into some other attribute, like Dex or Wis :)

sorry, it looks like str is one to one points per modifier on attack and damage...just checked in my game...

and the reason i cheated in master scoundrel luck is you're right, i do think my defense is sucky with 10 dex...

well, first, i don't have yavin station in my xbox, yet...

and really the reason i built this setup is...

given that i have no scruples, and i am very good at cheating, what is the most powerful character i could create on the xbox, which has a limited number of cheats available to it???

answer...pretty darn awesome...

and i use master luck to allow me to reinvest my attribute points purely offensively, putting them into wis, cha, and str...all offensive stats, relying on cheats to provide defensive capability...

but seriously, its not a build for everyone, especially for those people who are purists...but for powerplayers, its a darned effective and naughty build...

may post details later if people want the exact sequence of build techs...

btw...i also have over 10 skill points more than i should... :D :p

Yes yes.
Right now i am very sad, and am thinkning of restarting my game because of the pure fact that i have not got the skills to enhance Hk-47 to it's fullest. Also I wish to get Juhani. So I'm gonna go for a Good female charcter, who is also a magic user, basically same build as my other guy but this time i'll switch the wisdom and charisma stats around and also get juhani. I hear that persuade is better used on a good charcter, so that's what I'll do. I still have no idea how i'll get HK-47 to it's fullest ability. Maybe there's a glitch. UU, I'like you're build a lot, I would try it but I kinda have to finnish the game with my first idea atleast once before I try anything else.

Lots of skill points in repair, I understand you need a total of 17 (including bonusses). Casting Master Valor helps (+5 to int == +2 to repair) and the Calrission Utility Belt from Dantooine adds, I think, 4 sp to repair.

You might get enough skill points with your standard character build, but if you need both high Persuade and Repair (and preferable Treat Injury...) upping Int to 14 may be neccesary. A scoundrel or scout as base might be enough though (but with int on 10...). With a scoundrel you can save skill points until you become Consular, which has, I think, repair as class-skill (as has the scout).

Edit:
LS is a good choice for a Consular, with Mastery there is a +3 bonus to Charisma, add one from levelups and you get an additional +2 to the cha-modifier. There are some good LS items, at least in the PC version, the Circlet of Saresh adds +5 to wisdom, QD-robes add 2 to Wisdom and the StarForge robes add 5 too wisdom.
Beyala leaves the Enclave after you kill Juhani. I spoke to the little green (Yoda-like guy). He told me this. Now I want to know if there is anything i can do to find her [...]
After you killed Juhani, did you talk to Beyala?

***SPOILER*** (highlight to read)
If you speak to Beyala in the Enclave (after killing Juhani) and tell her that "Juhani deserved what she got" or something to that extent, she will get angry at you and leave the planet. When you get to Korriban, guess who's waiting to take revenge on you at the enterance to the Sith Academy.
Say NO to sigs!

Cool. Too bad that i've decided to make that the last planet i visit. So I won't be able to tell the council about what happens. But thanks, tha's basically what I was looking for.

Malak's Bane and fable, thnx for your posts guys. I'm going to eat some potato now. Mmmm. But first I'd like to ask some questions.
Malak - The robes are pretty cool, i'm looking foreward to those, but I'm pretty sure that you don't get the plus 3 charisma while pure light guardian on the xbox. If you do then WOW. That would be so great. Oh and could you or someone else tell me what is the maximum bonus you can get on the xbox for wisdom using the equipment, not talking about own stats just the amount of bonuses from equipment. Also one for charisma would be good, but i don't think there are any bonuses for that :(
Fable - spoiler..

you said that you eventually get all the upgrades for Hk-47 anyway. Is that true? cause i read that if you try to resore him you can get even +2 regeneration out of him. + lots of dexterity bonuses. I'm sure you knew that though.
the shots ring out, whenever we clash
its star wars. uh,
we call it star wars.
what happens when the shots ring out,
its called star wars.
UU, I'like you're build a lot, I would try it but I kinda have to finnish the game with my first idea atleast once before I try anything else.
the str build has a huge flaw...i got killed by some sand people in tatooine!!!

almost no natural defensive bonuses to speak of, or those sand people were cheating...

thinking of a dex based jedi...with two pistol for dealing with melee attackers...
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!
