How hard is it to play a Paladin? (Some Forgotten Realms and insertions as well.)

Still, isn't there be more than just "fighting inner evils" (whether by biology or not) and "spreading righteousness, honor, and helping the defenseless" to Paladins, aside from the individual personalities and gameplay mechanics of the character itself?
no.. not really... that just about sums them up.
I mean they are warriors of religions who go around killing stuff thats evil...

Besides isnt the individual character iteself what counts? you might aswell ask
"isnt there more to warriors besides killing stuff and the individual character" or "isnt ther more to wizards besides casting spells and the individual characters" etc... well not reeally.. i mean whats left? there is Game mechanics, there is class abilities, and then there is the individual character.

Heya Galuf,

No PnP? It's the bees knees I tell you! Knees!! :) If you lived in Sydney, Australia, I'd invite you to join one of my games. Or ask you to GM myself and some mates, if you were interested. Seriously, PnP games a waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better than CRPGs.

NWN is ok, but it is certainly nowhere near as good as the BG series, or even Icewind Dale in my opinion. Combat is duller than watching paint dry, and the actual ROLEplaying within the game is minimal. Some player mods are quite good, but otherwise it just isn't that good. KotOR did combat better.

Hmm, if you were to ask which actual race was more likely to produce a Paladin (i.e./ have Paladins in higher proportions than other races) I'd have to go with Dwarf - for two main reasons. The main alignment for Dwarves is Lawful, and their main two gods (Moradin and Clanggadin) are both Lawful Good. But as I have said, anyone can come up with a Paladin if they try hard enough.

And I'm still agreeing with taltamir in this discussion - boiling Paladins down to their ultimate basic level, they are religous warriors bent on defending their church (and people of that church). It really does come down to the player themselves.

Oh, if you want a Paladinic module for NWN, where the player has to be a Paladin, there is a series of modules written by Rick Burton called Twilight, Midnight and Dawn. If you wander over to NWN Vault at IGN you can download them (and if you read the comments, you'll see me arguing with Rick about the interpretations of Paladins as well).

Cheers mate,
TGHO

I played and HATED those modules :) I found Rick's interpretations of Paladins to be far too rigid, I was extremely repulsed by the henchie/PC interaction at one point, and the module itself had some extreme limitations (some combats were set way above the current PC ability, some involved instant death unless a certain tactic or cheese was used, and many of the puzzles were utterly obtuse and required the walkthrough to complete). Rick & I actually discussed this too, and we agreed to disagree.

However, that said, the modules are a good exercise in the study of Paladins (even if I do not fully agree with the interpretations Rick made).

I'm not sure if Dawn is out as yet...

Cheers,
TGHO

heh, i disagreed with some of the henchmen interactions aswell... But, I remember its entertainment. And all things considered, it was fun. Sure it had its downfalls, but nothing is perfect, and RELATIVELY its really good (key word, relatively)

Paladins are great! They (and monks) are my favorite classes... I love Lawfull good characters, Usually when you are good, people will look at you with a bigger smile on their faces, and especialy a paladin with his high charisma...

And as for the race, Aasimar (even it is a power class) is perfect for paladin... +2 to wis and charisma... What more can you ask for? And it's favored class is paladin... They also have some special abilities that are very good! (Electricity and cold? resistance, some offensive magicks, night vision) and all that for just being one level more powerfull! kick some eeveel but!
There once was a beast over seven hills and seven seas... One day the beast walks out and says "Shit man! Look where I live!"
