I'm having backstabbing trouble

Post by Klorox »

I can't figure out how to do it!

I figured it out in BGII, but in BGI, if I try to attack when I'm hidden, I get a message saying that I'm coming out of hiding or something, and I never get a backstab. How do you do it?

I've got Coran, and I think he'd be a great backstabber for me. His Stealth skil is ungodly with the shadow armor and boots of stealth!

Hide in shadows, or turn invisible.
Move behind the character you want to attack
And attack him to backstab.

Remember that Coran is a fighter/thief, but can only backstab with a melee weapon that a thief can use.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Yes, do make sure you're near the target before you click the target in attack mode. I noticed that when I was a few feet away while targeting a mark, I received the "leaving shadows" message as well.

Hope this helps you.

pause the game when you're ready to backstab the target, and then first click the target as to bs him then unpause..

Even in BG2, you get a message saying "Leaving shadows" when your Thief tries to backstab (and you hear a "whoosh").

The key to backstabbing in BG1 is to place your Thief EXACTLY behind your target. I think that BG2 gives you a lot more leeway.

a noob`s add..., so mind the q. at the bottom

restarted *bgthing-ing* but noticed a great difference in "where" to backstab. i tried in various town locations and failed, while a dark dungeon (dark like naskell tunnels lvl.2 ,bottom..) ... Imoen and Monti did it like a commando. ;) ..and it started with "search for traps", turned into "seek and backstab". it helped to drag a monster and "backstab" it after passing in pursuit-mode.
question: does backstabbing /ambush out of shadow apply in any form or in-game-counter/routine to missile(any kind) weapons, too. i sometimes think there IS a bonus, while i think the rules only mention H2h-stabbing. is there a second "ambush" counter? yes?
