the silly "prgress of truth" (spoilers)

Post by hwesta_elf »

Okay, I started off my game with becoming the Arch-Mage and then defeating the Dark Brotherhood but I totally ignored Ciaus (*spelling*) Cusades and now I'm trying to become whatever it is you become when you do all his quests. I got to the quest were you talk to the Kahjit and the Argonian and the Lady about the 6th Cult and the Nevarine prophecy and I did them in order. I talked to the Lady and she told me about this book the "Progress of Truth" so I went in search of the "secret library" and also to Jobasha but couldn't find a single copy. This is really bugging me, I need to find a copy, can someone help-- please! :(

I thought you were supposed to have some guy give it to you.. Perhaps you should re-read your journal about the Progresses of Truth..
What a wonderous love it is
To bind two souls in faith,
Chained completely together
With never a false word,
Weal and woe, wish and real,
Woven each together
From first kiss to last breath
First and last whispered in love

Its been quite some time since I played that particular bit, so I'm not really sure, but I think Jobasha had a copy. you might have just missed it. And, I think you con talk to him about it too, unless its a different book that I'm thinking about. So try checking Jobasha again.

It's not in Jobasha's book store... Well, that's not where you're told to find it, anyway. I did this a while ago, so I can't remember names or anything, but there's another library you have to go to. It's run by this Dark Elf lady that you have to talk to, and she tells you she has a copy of the book, but you either have to steal it or find it elsewhere; she can't give it to you because she's being watched. I stole mine. The Ordinators saw me, but I ran out the door before they could get me, and when I came back there a few days later, everything was normal. Then there's another copy in the bookstore that Gentlemen Jim Stacey is in. I think.... Actually, I don't remember. I just remember seeing one somewhere where it was easy to take. Sorry I can't be of more help. :(

I've seen it lying around all over the place.
Is it Mira Milo from whom you get the book? (The librarian in Vivec)
Doesn't she leave it in her room or something?

Oh well. I think I might have been thinking of another book that you can get from Jobasha. Sorry. But yeah, it might have been Mehra Milo who gives you that book. If not her, then I'm stumped. Sorry if I can't be of more help. :(

Actually, there is a copy of that book lying in the library in vivec. If you enter the library from the north entrance, it should be on one of the shelves of the bookshelf to your immediate left. It's a brownish book that kind of blends in with the environment, but if you can't see it it's not harder than to run your cursor over all the books in the library... :)

Little tip: You can safely ignore every bookseries, as the progress of truth stands alone.

I bet everyone did this quest like months ago and I'm really confused. Okay, who is Jim Stacey? were is he? were do u steal i mean *cough* borrow the book?  thanx for you guys' posts, I still need to see if reading my journal does anythin... :D

I just finish this so I can ensure you that the book is at jobasha's. or at least at my early stage in the game it is. but it might be that you have to buy it - although this isn't very heroic ;)

I know where you can get a copy if you get REALLY desperate. You say you are arch-mage. You're obviously skilled with Magic. The Telvanni stronghold has a copy of this book. Join Telvanni, and advance enough to get your stronghold, THEN get the book. I know its long, and I know its tedious, but it is legal. If not then you can always use the console, I don't know the code, but I'm sure many people here could help you.

Good luck.

*sob* yet again the fact that I have the XboX version destroys my hopes of completing the quest! :o and for the telvanni thing, is it a problem if I'm in Redoran (which, by the way, I can't seem to advance in either... stupid ash statue... stupid Varvur...) ;)

It's in the Freaking Library where Milo or whatever her name is, you can steal it(if you are any good) or as someone said Jobasha's bookstore has one. There are many other places that I don't remember, cause I always steal it from the library.

If you go to Jobasha and ASK about it, I think it appears in his inventory, then you can barter with him for it, if you have already sold it.

The Real Answer

As pointed out before, it is on a shelf in the library where you get the tip from Mehra Milo. I was not able to find it at Jobasha's before or after the quest (unless I stole it and sold it without realizing it).
The book in the library can be obtained very easily - you don't need Chameleon or Invisibility, or even good Sneak (mine was 5). Like everything else in the game, if you can't see a person, they can't see you. Move around the library until the guards go on their rounds, then go to the side of the book shelf away from the other temple people. Get into a position where no one can see you, and then take the book. I got into Sneak to grab it, but I imagine it would work even without it. It worked twice in a row for me.
Also, there are lots of expensive books in there you can steal and sell to someone later for cash without mods...

WEll due to all repeating i didn't read all post's..

There should be atleast 3 copies of book called ''Progress of Truth''

One is in Jabashas book store.. BUY IT..

Second is in library where you talked to Mehra Milo.. look at the books and slowly move until you have found it.. take it and drop it.. pay fines and take it again..

Third is in Hall of justice.. Hidden library.. well this place is pointless..

How can you say no to this face? :D

The book is at Jobasha's, 100% sure about that. Just buy the damn book from him, 200 here or there aint anything...

If you can't find it from him, check again. He has only one copy of it.

PS. I usually buy the book when I get the task to find the three agents in Vivec, it saves a lot of time when I go to Cauis B/c I got the book already...

As he notes, it's easy to overlook. Jobasha typically stocks many copies of every book he carries, and the layout can also be a bit confusing.

Since I had read here that the book could be found at Jobasha's I scoured his stock *many* times over, but it was very definitely not there. I ended up using stealth to steal the copy in the library.

I have seen various other people post that they have not been able to find The Progress of Truth at Jobasha's, which leads me to believe that perhaps Jobasha selling it, or not, is random or maybe related to whatever edition/patch of the game people have.
