For those who read the books...

Post by The Chosen One »

I just finished to read the book by Robert Salvatore ´´The Legacy of the Drow´´
And my questions are:
1. Is Drizzt Do'Urden a rager or a fighter?? And if he is a ranger, was he a rager before he left Mezabberzan or after he get out to the surface?
2. In the book Drizzt sayes that there is no word for love in drow-elvish and the closest word would be ´´ssinssrig´´ wich means more like pleasure...but in the game, IWD 2, this word shoes up in this sentains: ´´Usstan ssinssrig ula goln´´ wich means ´´ I am hunting goblings´´. Is it a misstake or there is no one whom taking drow-elvish seriosly? I mean...If drow-elvish is a compleat languege like Tolkiens elvish or it's just som words???
3. ´´The Legacy of the Drow´´ is one of the books in threeologi. What is the name of other books and in wich order they are written???

Thankfull for awnser, Chosen. ;)

1. he was trained as fighter.. then he ran to underdark and so he got some barbarian levels.. then he turned to ranger when he went to surface world..

2. It gives them pleasure.. would be my translate.. there was some program wich did some translating with almost every fantasy elf language.. bu it has been while since i last saw that site.. better ask my sister soes she remember it..

3. See from this link..

http://www.sorcerers.net/Books/index_fr.php

Homeland is first Drizzt book.. and i would recomend reading those in right order.. might be less confusing that way..

After thousand orc.. Drizzt books have turned lot better.. yes there are some good gems between Sojourn and The Thousand Orcs.. But that is my tastse..

I havent got chance to read The Two Swords yet..

But personally i think that Elaine Cunningham's Songs & Swords serie is better than Drizzt..

Anyway my 5 snt...

Soo... maybe they take pleasure in hunting goblins? Just a suggestion...

I've only read The Silent Blade, so I wouldn't know. But I truly doubt that they've actually made a language.... more likely they made a weird version of most words in english and called it the Drow language...

He turns Ranger when he meets his mentor friend in that grove...when he first reaches the surface he is just Drizzt as Drizzt is: Powerful, Talented and Lost. When he meets the old man(cant remember his name and cant be bothered to look it up) he gets introduced to Mielikki(spelled right?) goddess of the woodlands(or something like it). First of all he is trained by his Father(cant remember his name either) and becomes a fighter after graduating at Melee Magthere(spelled right?). Than he traveles the underdark and becomes some what of a Barbarian(he brutally slays a basilisk only helped by Guwenwywar(spelled wrong?), which is to say impresive). Meets the svirfneblin dude(what is it with me and names?) that he saved earlier and becomes sivilized again(in other words back to fighter). There are his classes. Just to ask the question: does he ever become fighter again? I know he goes back to "The Hunter" now and then and so he kind of stays Ranger/Barbarian through all the books I have read(which is to say all except for The Two Blades).

Sorry for giving away some of the book while trying get a more detaljed perspective on his classes but trust me when I say that if you like Forgotten Realms and Dungeons and Dragons than you have all reason to read the books. Besides I did not say why and what exactally happened to him just that those things shaped what he has become and I would say that now (if you have not read the book) you have a greater reason to read the books because there is so much more than just why he is Fighter-Barbarian-Ranger. The whole story around his life is a good way to spend boaring hours in a car, plane or other means of transportation. And trust me when I also say that Elaine Cunninghams books Song and Swords are not better than the Drizzt books(depends intirely on which book series we are talking about, if it is the Legacy of the Drow than I might agree but the Hunters Blade series is hard to beat(only my opinion and of course everyone is different). My person favorite must be the War of the Spider Queen series(very good books). Ah well just to have said it: If you havent read any of these book, READ THEM!

(sorry for posting such long post but it is hard to say what you want in few words)

Yes I have seen long post before and I know that long post would be three times longer than mine but if you have not noticed most post consist of no more than five lines. Most of them even consist of five lines with only three lines of writing. Compare these to mine and you will see that five lines with three lines of writing is nothing compared to my 15 lines with all writing(didnt count my lines so I have actually no idea of how long they are).

Since this game takes place almost 100 years before the Icewind Dale books, why talk about this in a game that only cashes in on the name of the series?

This could just as easily go into the Forgotten Realms forum.

WRONG!..

16 years before Drizzt comes to sunlight...

But this year was also in IWD1..

That is becuse it would create conflict with DRIZZT BOOKS...

So no one can come and say that that didn't happen... Drizzt was there but where was this legion?

I don't think the drow language in the game is as accurate as in the books... Wouldn't try to learn drow just by the quotes occuring in the game :p
