Post by jedifire »

Right now I have a Beserker/Cleric, Kensai/Theif, and Kensai/Mage. I was looking for a new character to make but I cant decide. Anyone have any suggestions?

well
when you planning on dualing those guys?
you might want to consider making a pure fighter class, or perhaps paladin. Because if you dual those guys early like around
9 or 10 like most people do, level 9 fighter abilities won't help much in late game.

I personally found that clerics are more useful than mages. I pretty much finished the underdark using my stalker/cleric almost solo, leaving the rest of my group at the entrance to many of the dungeons, like the mind flayer and elder orb dungeons---did those exclusively with my stalker/cleric. Basically killed everything with summoned creatures.

I played a inquisitor paladin guy, and he kinda sucked, for some reason he only had base 66 hps (71 buffed) at the end of the game. And he always died like the first minute of every tough fight. Kinda a worthless character. If i were to play again, i'd replace the paladin with a berserker or barbarian. Also, i wouldn't play a mage or kensai/mage again, i'd go with sorcerer. My kensai/mage was kinda useless. being only able to cast one level 8 spell or 2 by games end, wasn't much help. And you never know what spells your gonna need until its too late.....with a sorcerer theres no issue with that as all spells in your book are available as long as you have rested. So spell choice becomes important, not what you chose to memorize for the next day.

Even though i removed the exp cap, and my kensai/mage had access to level 9 spells. he was still useless.

my stalker/cleric and swashbuckler/cleric were badasses, mainly because of their summoning powers. And my swashbuckler/cleric had -10 armor class LESS than anyone else in my group for most of the game. -15 at games end.

well, my kensai/mage actually kinda saved the day at the end of the game, when i fought irenicus. My swash/cleric was killed and also my paladin, and irenicus was kicking my remaining two characters asses, when i used tensers transformation. Gave my mage 265 hit points, and mad him a badass level 19 fighter for long enough to give my stalker/cleric time to resurrect my paladin and swash/cleric.

Also, inquisitors are cheesy. They dispel magic at 2x their level....which is probably why my mage was so useless....the really important mage spells like spell thrust, breach, pierce magic, etc., are all made obsolete by having an inquisitor in your party. So when some mage was buffed to the T, i could just dispel all his buffs with my inquisitor. But the inquisitor died so often that he wasn't much use either.

just some thoughts...

Bohdi,

I beg to differ. 9th level fighter abilites for a mage makes a HUGE difference. In the first place, you will have a better thaco than ANY straight mage, and since your hitdice stop at 9th level anyway, you WILL have fighter hit points (and a fighter Con bonus). Add to the fact that Tensors will double your *fighter* hit points, and reduce your thaco from it's 9th fighter level, and you have a killing machine (my last F/Mu had something like 350 hits with a THACO of -20 when tensored).

The sad fact about fighters (and I like the class btw) is that after 9th level, they really don't improve very much when compared with other classes. That is what makes the Fighter dual (with anything else) so nasty.

Since we're into powergaming duals (nothing wrong with that IMO), we haven't yet mentioned:
[*]A level 13 Berserker or Kensai dualled to Druid
[*]Swashbuckler-Mage
[*]Priest of Helm-Mage

And if you have ToB, try the multis:
[*]Fighter/Mage
[*]Fighter/Cleric
[*]Fighter/Druid
[*]Cleric/Mage
[*]Illusionist/Thief
(Isn't it great that three of those are available as NPCs?)

What was his constitution? Ideally 16 minimum and make sure you roll for as high as possible hitpoints until level 9.

Hmmm...strange. My inquisitor had a constitution of 18 and had 140 hp. Oh yeah, I kept on rerolling until I got like all tens.
