Dropping off NPC's on a logical spot

Post by Tjobov »

To some people, this maybe sounds a bit stupid and unnecessary, but when I drop off NPC's, I like to leave them behind on a "logical" place, instead of just letting them stand 24 hours a day on the street, even when it's raining. For an excample: Branwen/Ajantis at the Temple of Helm in Nashkell, Xan at the house of Firebead Elvenhair in Beregost, Xzar & Montaron at the High Hedge with that evil mage and Garrick at the Nashkell Carnival.
This may have no influence on the main story line or even on the little side quests, but by doing so, I feel like making the setting a bit more logical; the NPC's end up at a place where you could expect them to be, making their characters a bit more believable. Also, you run into one of them every now and then, so they are not "just gone".
Does anyone have similiar thoughts on this?

I usually dump them all at the Friendly Arms - although it is a rare game that I pick up any NPCs from Chapter 4 onwards. If I encounter them, I just ignore them.

No, doesn't sound stupid at all, I do the same! I had taken Minsc, Imoen and Branwen to Nashkel, and when I got North to the bandit camp, they came to my mind so I went back and escorted them to the Friendly Arm so that they'd be closer :) Well, it's roleplaying, after all, and I wouldn't like to leave my companions in the middle of the forest if it was real adventure (especially if they were stupid enough to stay right where I leave them for ages :p ).

Some people I picked up only to find out more about their abilities and stats, and when I found they were not useful for me I took them to a safe place and dropped them off there. So the friendly Arm is full of unemployed NPCs now :p

Another advantage is that it's much easier to find them if I change my mind and want to pick them up again.
Up the IRONS!

Aye, I agree with Brynn. Having them all in a single central location does mean it is easier to track them down, if they are needed (or someone gets chunked and needs to be replaced).
