Perdue's sword

Post by Tavi »

The only sword dropped by a gnoll happened the be the "Whistling sword" (+2 short) and its history seemed to fit.. However, Perdue didn't react when I brought it to him.

The sword will have the name "Purdue's Shortsword" and it can be looted off the body of one of the gnolls around HighHedge. And to be honest with you I've never heard of the Whistling Sword before. And the only shortsword +2 in the game AFAIK is from a Hobgoblin in the area south of HighHedge.

For the skeptics...

BTW, could it be that a bug in the game replaced Perdue's Sword with this one?

OK, that's the sword you loot off the Hobgoblin's corpse in the area south of HighHedge just west of Bassilus. The sword you want you get from a Gnoll's corpse in the HighHdge area. Sorry for the skeptacism, but it's been a while since I played and I honestly don't ever remember seeing a sword named the Whistling Sword. But there's only one shortsword +2 in the game and you get it from the Hobgoblin.

Perdue's sword is not a +2 sword; it's just an ordinary shortsword with Perdue's name on it. You'll know it when you see it.

And really, if Perdue lost a +2 shortsword and you found it, would you really give it back to him for a 500 experience point plus 50 gold piece reward? I wouldn't. :)

By the way, you got that +2 sword from a hobgoblin, not a gnoll.

Yes you would. Then you'd stab Perdue in the back and reclaim "your" new sword. ;)

There's something that bothers me a little bit about the whole Perdue thing. It's not Perdue himself, but more the fact that you can just kill without losing experience or people getting hostile. However, if you kill thief Zhurlong, who is just a few doors away, you lose reputation and all people in the bar get hostile, even though this guy stole 50 gp from you!
Is it that Zhurlong way more popular than Perdue, and that people are just glad that you killed that complaining short fellow?? I just think it's mean, that you can't attack a thief robbing you, while people always attack you when you trie to rob them... Poor perdue, he's just a bit stressed out that people are always making crummy jokes about him... :(

Perdue is a gibbering loony whereas Zhurlong is a smooth talker and nice guy even if a thief. And they are walking about in two totally different quality establishments. <Shrug> my thoughts, anyway! :)

I killed Zhurlong without any trouble or turning anybody in the Burning Wizard hostile towards me. I don't know if I just got lucky or maybe I just did it right after he pickpocketed me and that has some effect. I've always found Perdue's short sword directly southeast of the manor building in High Hedge. You encounter 3 gnolls and one of them has it. Kill all three and bring Perdue his sword back for some easy XP.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think a bounty hunter attacks you in the tavern where Perdue hangs out. I don't think anyone attacks you in the tavern where Zhurlong pickpockets you. Since you have to fight the bounty hunter, I think that's the reason why killing is permitted in one establishment but not the other. That's the only explanation I can think of.
