I've always just gone after them one at a time, took one item, led that one golem into the room next to it where the rest of my party waited hidden and walloped them.
Pretty easy that way.

"Grab the loot and run like someone's forcing you to watch a Meryl Streep movie."

AIGH! C'mon, man, 50 golems wouldn't be that scary! God, now you've triggered my flashbacks again... Postcards... She-Devil... Sophie's Choice... Gaaaaaaaaaah! *eyes roll back, gibbering drooling commences*

I guess i took the wimpy way out. I hasted Minsc, then left everyone else by the stairs to the cellar. I grabbed the stuff as fast as possible(hint: you can pause while in the inventory of the statues) and ran like heck to the stairs where everyone else was waiting to venture forth. Just a warning - i think the golems might follow you down the stairs if you're not careful. not sure.

Melfs Minute Meteors. Brilliant spell for fighting Iron/Adamantite/Stone golems. Not sure if it works on Clay. It's been aweile since I played the game.

I took them all out one at a time except for the giant one. For that one...I sent some cloud kills in there, and he is too large to get out the doorway. I probably used some ranged weopons....melf's meteors probably, while he couldnt reach me. I think i may even have done some hitting and fading (and healing) with one of my tanks.

Oh, and when teh giant was the last one left i had sent the priest in with sanctuary to take everything...including weopons you can use againt him (hammer against giants, part of flail of ages, etc...) I dont think i had hasted....since you dont turn visible when u take teh items. and supposedly u can take the flail head without activating anyone.

Wow... I knew that the Ring of Earth Control could charm stone/clay golems (they are made of earthy materials), but I didn't know that it could charm Iron golems. How about that? I guess iron comes from the earth too.. but is this a game bug? How about the rings of Air Control and Fire Control, will they charm golems as well?

AFAIK, Melf's Minute Meteors hurt *everything*, except mages with certain protection spells cast on them. It's one of my favourite spells, 5 attacks/round!

From a Role-Playing perspective, I think it's ok not to kill the golems, as they most likely belong to the owner of the keep, Lord D'Arnise, and part of your mission is to try to rescue him, and he probably wouldn't be too happy if you destroyed his golems (though better them than him I guess). Though you could always blame the trolls. ;)
