Attack Bonuses & Multiple Attacks?

Post by vorpal_rabbit »

The new party I just started is almost all multi-classed, even my tank. This leads me to wonder how the game determines base attack bonuses, and when you start getting multiple attacks, if you have more than one class.

Just advance playing and you will get those attacks.. there is nothing to worry about..

BAB is added across the different classes:

fighter 4 / wizard 1 / rogue 3 will have BAB of: 4+0+2=6.

it will actually be +6/+1, as another attack is added after every +5.

The manual has a section on "Multiclass Characters" which can be found if you look in the 'index'. Find this, go to the page and look down about 1 inch.

...sorry for being late ;)

...but was on a business trip last week...

generally it's quite simple - you can calculate your BAB based on the levels you have in each class and then just add them!

so a fighter 4 - rogue 3 - wiz 7 would have the following BAB calculation:

- fighter 4: each level +1 > BAB +4 (same for all other fighter based classes)

- rogue 3: for every 4 levels you get +1 BAB for each level beside of the first one > BAB +2 (same for bard, cleric & druid)

- wizard 7: for every 2nd level +1 BAB > BAB +3 (same for sorc)

this is a total of BAB +9

generally you start with one attack and get a 2nd one with BAB 6 and every 5 afterwards you get another additional attack - so with BAB 9 you would get:

2 attacks - the 1st one with a BAB 9 and a 2nd attack with a BAB 4

but this is capped at a maximum of 4 attacks via BAB !

you can get one additional attack in three ways:

- haste
- 2 weapon fighting
- an item with "speed" effect

but you can only get a maximum of five attacks - even if you have a BAB 30, 2WF, haste and a speed item you are capped at 5 attacks per round!

...btw. 2WF has the best BAB for the 5th attack in almost every case!
