Item Randomness Sucks

Post by PersuAzN »

I don't know about the rest of you... But one big FLAW with KOTOR II is the Item Randomness... I know you get the best things when you reach around lvl 50 or wutever.. But honestly KOTOR I's layout of where to find items was convenient to me. I knew where to get a certain Item, wut planet, everything.. Obsidian made a terrible mistake including this whole random item generator. If you are like me and you absolutely hate the Random Item idea.. please by all means reply... It puts a let down in the entire game knowing you won't be getting Visas Mar's or Bastilla's Lightsaber (which i still have yet to find..) or any of the other cool items in just one game. It doesn't throw off the experience but is really is a pain...

It adds replay value. You won't get the same item twice. KOTOR I had very little variety.

The replay value to me layed with Light/Dark... Jedi Class/Sith or Jedi Prestige class.. Character development and Kotor 1 ending. That was the true replay value. The Item Random thing is just a pain, and is I strongly hope it will not be in Kotor 3. I've played the game 4 times, i still got the same items.. even Malak's armour. i still have yet to find 1 more Jedi armour robe. It all seems a bit stupid to me. Kotor 1 had little vareity compared to II, but at least the Items were secure.

I think its a great feature and it helps you use different types of wepons. For example: In my first run through i used Viroblades untill I got my lightsaber, but in my second run through I found 2 Gammorian war axe's and used them until my my lightsaber.

Good and bad. My first time throw, I didn't even get a jedi robe till like the 4th planet. But my second run I got one right off the start, A master robe. HEHEHEHEHE.

But when I didn't have robes and stuff, I found ot more fun, never knowing when or what you where going to get. :)

spoilers?

I like the random items too. Heck, I didn't know there WERE Gamorrean war axes to find. See, now I have to play it AGAIN. I guess everyone has their preferences. It's kind of funny, I thought that the total lack of randomness in kotorI was the only real flaw with the game and was quite excited when I found out this one would be random.

I think the only thing that's been bugging me about the random items in this one is that I never seem to run across any crystal of the new colors. In fact, the game generates yellow crystals for me like 70% of the time. I have yet to see cyan, silver, etc., etc. And I hate yellow.
Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and
flutter,
In there stepped a stately raven of the saintly days of yore;
Not the least obeisance made he; not a minute stopped or stayed
he;................................
Perched, and sat, and nothing more.

It's very hard to come acroos rare colour crystles in plasteel bins and stuff. I only got a Cyan once from that. But the easiest way is to find a merchant (perferably the black market dealer on telo's orbital station) and save before you talk to him. His stock randamises aswell and he always has at least one crystle there. I did this and I had Jedi master robes and a silver crystle :)

i think that having random items in some places is cool but having almost every plasteel container diffrent from file to file kills me with time consumption because I have to search every single one!!! I like how jorran and the lady who sells jedi parts on dant. are reandomized but their item randomizations come in groups like if you want an orange crystal, double bladed lightsaber and siver crystal you will have to load and talk to jorran for at least an hour! the lady on dant. only has a couple diffrent sets you can get. one has more robes, another has more expensive crystals and another has more crystals but are more common.

exploiting the random loot generator...

high levels...the higher your level, the better the loot...i ended up with 6 saradush visors, 3 force focus visors in onderon, at level 50...(i cheat a lot... :D )

save before talking to merchants, as mentioned above...

certain maps have containers near the entry point...exploit them...at dantooine, you can find 6 containers without having to kill anything near the ebon hawk...so save before exiting the ship, and open them all, reload until you get good stuff...it literally took me 50 reloads but i finally got a mandalorian disintegrator... :(

another one is at dxun, in the mandalorian cache...some others will come immediately to mind, if you've played the game before... :D

Opening the security door outside of Khoonda is also a nice place.

I just get so bored of some of the cheats that I just go on without them. Is there an easy way to get to level 50? The only thing I tried for experience was the sith tomb on Korriban but since was light side I got super bored of how long it took me to heal up each time that I just moved on.

nope, sorry...take a look at the map when you're inside that room...its the same map as khoonda, so the first time you are inside khoonda you've locked the items...try reloading after opening the security door and grabbing stuff...its always the same... :(

why bother healing? i don't know if its my game or a general bug, BUT YOU CANNOT DIE in that room...lightside...

get master force drain, and keep blasting them with master force storm...its not too bad...in fact its fun trying out different tricks...like i tested force body and came away with some good information and tricks using force body...

I've got a question about that. I had once saved as soon as I was Goto's yacht and opened that 1st container. I failed to defeat the droid and mines in the next room so I died and reloaded it. I opened the same container and got a different item.

save before a map reloads, and if you reload that save, then re-enter the map, you get brand new different items in the containers...

once you save while in that map, you've basically "locked" that map with the specific items you've found...

a brand new map generates brand new items...

i think it needs to be a hybrid system. some items need to be set, and the rest random. i have a tendency to get a butt load of junk items and have found vary few good ones. i also seem to get only double bladed lightsabers, i only had one single blade throughout the game and one short. the nice thing about the first one is that some items came to you at about the time you'd need them, when you kill jedis, you can usually get some/all of them. i rarely got any of their lightsabers. i think the random needs to not apply to jedis, and that some items should be set, but i do like the possibility of stumbling on a rare powerful item. makes you more hopeful.

there also seems to be a trigger point...

sorry..didn't really carefully read it...

in dantooine, i saved just before rescuing (deleted) in the cave, after entering the cave, and i reloaded and got different items...unless a dev drops by, we really won't get a difinitive reason why it worked...but i would guess a trigger point... :p

this is wut im talking about... all you guys are putting 2 much emphasis and techique in "guessing". I still stand by that Item Randomness blows. It gets annoying, and as for replay value, sure it adds some, but who wants to replay just because they didnt get a certain gun, or a certain robe!! you've got to be kidding me!!! I wish were items that were set, certain weapons, robes... armour, but nooo.. Obsidian I guess cant be blamed, they had a year and a half to finish this game up, not much time, but still. Item Randomness is stupid. Replay for Character development, story, etc, sure... but for items?! HAH!

Funny thing is that right now(3rd time), I'm in Dxun (3rd planet for me this time) and I have yet to find Droid Armor at all.
