Items impossible to pick up?

Or is there a hidden trick I missed?

I find it sometimes impossible to pick up items I spotted.
E.g. in the Thinned Blood Quest...

*Spoilers*
I stand right before the car.
I managed to open the trunk, which was hard enough, since the open-action was only available in a pose between crouching and standing... Now that I have it opened, I cannot access the items inside. I see them, I stand on them, I run around, I try it from the sides... But I never get em.
Its really really frustrating..

Any help? ;(

problem

I had it crashing when I tried to take the items, so there must be a bug. My patched version has not crashed there since.
