DC of spells seems wrong

Post by Ravenbane »

I had thought that the DC of spells was ten + spell level + Ability bonus.

However I keep getting hit by my own fireballs when I should be saving.

My sorcerer has 23 CHR which is a +6 and fireball is level 3 so that should be 19.
My monk still gets hit on a 20 or 21.
Is it perhaps supposed to be mages level instead of spell levels?

If you cast your fireball on legs of your party and if they fail in their REFLEX save they will take whole damage. If they get good roll in reflex save they will only get half damage of that. If you have roque with evesion he or she might walk trough this situation without any damage.

There is nothing strange, with fireball you save for half dmg, this means that unless you have greater evasion (high lev. rogue) you can't avoid to take dmg. Maybe you are confusing with spell penetration and spell resistance (you need that if you like to nuke your companion).

No, Monk with evasion should take no damage upon a successful save.

Check with your mage, it's more likely that you have chosen spell focus:Evocation to grant you additional DCs.

.

no evasion = if you make the save -> half damage - if not full damage

evasion = if you make the save -> no damage - if not full damage

imp. evasion = if you make the save -> no damage - if not half damage

...evasion only works on area effect spells!

DC: calculation is right...

...but even if you have a higher basic save then DC - if you roll a 0 you get a critical miss and get hit anyways!
