I need some help about being a thief

Post by Eternal-Element »

Hello all,

I have just started a new character, and want to try the thieves guild. I am at the quest where you have to get a key for some estate, by taking it from a servant at the council club in Balmora. But everytime i try to take the key from him, he then knows what i am doing, and so does the rest of the club too. I wanna know why i cant "borrow" this key from him without getting seen when taking it.

Any help appreciated
thank you

Do the Larrius Varo quest and just kill them, than you can just get it from his body, that is the only way my friend. Either kill him or try to pickpocket him which is very very hard.

Yeah indeed it's hard to pickpocket him, but i dont wanna kill him, cause my whole reason to create this new characters, was to dominate by stealth and cunning, not by brutal use of force, which my last one did :D

It's like impossible to do the game merely by stealth/cunning, I started out as a thief with my original character but I had to use brutal force. Accept the inevitable and start whacking people with your big sword! :D

elaborating what wrath meant: get him to like you (getting that thing that shows how much a person likes you to 100/100)and then ask for the key and then you should be able to bribe the key from him.. i've done it several times

It's not entirely possible to play the game without getting into serious melee fights, but you can get quite far using sneak, security, illusionspells and speechcraft.
By the way, the servant isn't the only one who has key. The guy who owns the estate has one on him as well. Try to get your sneak ability up, by practise or by magical means, and try to pickpocket him. It's the sneak skill that determines how well you can pickpocket, not the security skill, and your sneak level is very easy to improve.

It's not that hard, really. When I played a thief-type of characters I always managed to steal it. Try to increase your sneak-skill and there shouldn't be a problem.

Regarding playing a theif-kinda guy, it will also give you an opportunity to use the magic you rarely ever use, like blind, burden, invisibility and chameleon! :)

hey ok i got it to be the perfect thief go to fort moonmoth and go to the jail tower by going through the main enterance and buy the drain block spell from the lady guarding the cells, next go back to balmora and go to the lady wearing the green robe in the downstairs and have her make you a spell for drain skill then select drain sneak and setit to 100-100 the duration to 5 seconds on self then go to nine toes's house and user the spell then talk to him and have him train your sneak and it should say it raised to 0 but if you keep using the spell and keep training(for 1 gold by the way)i think you should see a change in your sneak skill if you know what i mean! after that go to seyda neen and buy the jack of trades spell from the trade house dude and go to balmora,go to the same girl and have her ,make you a spell for fortify attribute, choose luck set it to 100-100 on self and add soul trap on target go to a wall and use the spell about a billionm times and u will get the key

Eh, doing it the "conventional" way seems to be much easier plus faster. :p

i am a perfectionist so when i play a thief i just go somewhere safe, put something on the key that makes me sneak, and sit and listen to music watching my sneak skill go up. only after i get my sneak skill to 100 do i start adventuring. i do this in the seyda neen tradehouse.
