Good Idea?

Post by Genetic »

I'm thinki'n about roleplaying a mage and I think I may have hit a cool idea. After getting to a high enough level in conjuration, I could cast a full suit of bound armor on myself whenever neccessary. Any opinions?

The reason I want to be a mage is because melee combat can get very booooring.

I agree with the fact that melee is boring, but playing through as a mage sounds very difficult. It's hard enough to play as a Battlemage sometimes, too.
Its just you have make pretty powefull spells to defeat many enemies and some of the bosses have reflect which isnt very good for someone who just uses magic.

it is extremely hard to play with a mage, using only magic

at higher levels u wud have to be resting every time u cast a powerfull spell, unless of course u do a nice simple trick

enchant, everything.

have an open locks amulet, mark and reacall amulets, a fireball amulet etc.

If you're on the PC, there are several mods that make a pure mage both fun and possible. If you're on the Xbox, it's very tough.

If you want to play a mage, don't make all your major and minor skills magical ones. No matter how you play, you'll eventually need some stealth and combat skills too. Just my 2 drakes.

I have played through about lever 45 as a pure mage and here are some tips.

Use Breton or Dunmer. Atronach is your friend. Get you Mysticism and Enchant up as high as you can right off the bat. Enchant EVERYTHING.

Edit: Also, you mentioned conjured armor. ONce I get good enough, I make a spell that casts the full suit plus some reflect, etc. It's hard to cast and takes a lot of magicka, so you have to be top notch. Using a buff potion before you cast will help.

There's a wonderful mod by the fine coder, Tommy Khajit, that makes a mini-quest of bound armor. Basically, you have to locate mages that sell you the various binding spells for armor pieces, first. Then, once you've assembled a full suit in this fashion, a new spell (Tommy's) appears automatically in your spell list, allowing you to summon them all as one. So it's really an ease-of-use mod, and a nice one, at that.

Regrettably, I know no way around this on the Xbox. Wish I could help.
