quick question (potentially spoiler)

Post by jlau2001 »

hi guys.

I just begin the game and when I go to northwest hive, you will see Mar and he will give you the box.

Then I seen some walkthrough and saying you are not suppose to open that and should go to somewhere to release the curse...

Then I just try to open the box, and I fat demon got out, so I killed it and I got a ruby which was mounted on the ornate box.

So now I just wondering, if this ruby any use except sell it to merchant for some copper coin ? because killing that bastard only give me 200xp but if I try to release the curse of the box, I will get much more xp and money (from Mars)

So what is your suggestion ?

Why not try both and find out, eh?

Removing the curse is definitely the better option.
Not only for the experience, but furthur on in the game you'll come upon a fight which will get you a MEGA-item because you removed it.
You'll still be able to obtain the ruby, just not in the same way.

Without a question, work to remove the curse. It's ultimately much more beneficial to do this. The Gamebanshee walkthrough has a pretty good synopsis on how to do this.

...but I wouldn't spoil myself and read it, if I were you ;) Just take it as an article of faith and work to remove the curse; you'll see why this is beneficial later in the game.

This gem from the box is a quest item.
The mage in one of the buildings in Ragpicker Square needs it.

thank you for responses.

Now I am in the vertmin and disease office, the walkthrough mentioned that the officer will buy any cranium rat tails from me, but what I found was Dirty Rat Tail Charm, and the officer didn't mention anything to buy my tails.

I don't know if the charm is different than cranium rat tails or I need to do something in order to get him to buy.

Just wondering, if the charm is different than cranium rat tails, then where shall I go and get some ?

thanks guys !!

It's too late now, but in the future you can probably get better responses faster if you post new questions in new threads rather than old ones; that would make future searches easier too ;)

To answer your questions, as already said, cranium rat tails are different than dirty rat charms. The latter is a 'power-up' boosting your thieving skills (and is moderately priced). The former has no special abilities at all and is merely used as proof you've killed cranium rats, as there's a bounty on them - they're considered a menace by the city. A head-hunt for tails if you so wish ;) Cranium rat tails sell for 1-2gps.
