Yeah, I guess you can think of it that way too- I didn't until you brought it up. As ever, it seems to be a DM's call...

The point I think was to get rid of the str based monk Aegis, he was a seriously anti-str dm. There wasn't a single fighter type. The monk was our damage dealer. :D

So that's just a bias on the part of the DM. I've played with a DM that refuses to allow dwarves to exist in his campaigns, simply because he doesn't like how they look. And when they do exist, they're slaves. Half-orcs are usually just brutish humans, using the half-orc racial features, but not fictionally being part orc.

But he loves elves, so the little poufs are everywhere.

The verdict is in!

I'm playin the freakin cleric!

The other two are playing a rogue and a fighter and they are inexperienced. So I figured that if we are going to live we need serous healing power.

It's okay though. I am really good with clerics. I even write little prayers for differnet spells and say them as I cast. I was looking for something different though. Oh well. :D

My last cleric was an elf though and a nature deity. I'll pick something more anglo this time. Human with pelor or something similar.

The last one wasn't so great in a fight either, so I'll focus more on combat.

Go w/St. Cuthbert and get righteous :D You can really bust skulls with the strength feat.

The other idea could also be to do something like Mask or Flarnagan- a less obvoius diety.

Yeah, I like cuthbert. You get to really play judge with that one. ;)

You don't have to take excuses either. Lots of fun. I have to wait and see what pantheon she is using though.

Why not do a gruff, battle crazed dwarven priest? Bust out a massive hammer and crush skulls and lecture your companions for delaying his killing to tend their wounds. You'd get to give them pointers in how to role play while staying right in character then.

or bust out with a bow and start lecturing while keeping everyone at bay with a hail of arrows. and the only thing you guys really need is an arcane caster and your all set.you could cross-class, to a wizard, or a warmage. that would get interesting. you would just need to increase your int, or cha to be most effective.

It sucks, we're rolling the traditional way so I can count on somewhat low scores. I need a wis of 15 at least so I don't know what other attributes I'll need. That's why I'm thinking maybe pelor, that way I can play it lots of different ways depending on how many good ability scores I get. I don't like to play a melee type cleric without 14 in str and 12 in con at least. I don't think I'll use a bow either. Mostly because my last cleric did.

so the DM's not lettin you use the point buy system? damn that blows. well if you dont get a good amount of dex use more armor. i know you already know this or atleast should. and for weapons you could always use a spiked chain, or chain and dagger. its a medium weapon, 4gp to buy one, does 1d6 if used as a S weapon, and crits on 19-20/x2. gives you a +2 on disarm rolls, even from bein disarmed. get these enchanted with the magic missle lock-on feature and you'll never miss, always grapple (if you wanted) but you'll never crit. its about a 10ft chain. so it should keep you out of danger. hopefully. hope that helps. :)

Thanks, but I pretty much always use the deity's favored weapon as a matter of honor with clerics. I don't mind the low attributes really. I just need to get a Wis of 15 so that I can eventualy get level 9 spells. I usully put dex low with clerics except elven. Then I pile on the armor. :D

They're loads of fun and can be really powerful if played correctly.

Fighter is good for someone who is a beginner, or is very experienced and wants to dabble in complex tactics in battle. Hence all the feats.

You should try monk, it's a good step between fighter and cleric. Some beginners have trouble with cleric because spell selection is important and people don't know what to take. Monk is straightfoward, but gives you a lot of spell-like powers to get used to. Sorcerer is a good second character too because there is a little spell selection but you can use any of the one's you know at any time.

Bard would be good, but it's often too complex for beginners.

Okay, so this thread was like totally pointless.

I'm so stupid. :p I gave in to temptation and decided to play the elven cleric. :o I'm making him the son of my last character though, that will be fun. :D

I've got an email to the DM in the works asking about domain selection. I'm trying for the Community domain from Complete Divine and the Elf domain from FR. I don't know if that will fly though. What should I do for domains if she doesn't allow those?

I have a question in return.
Why wouldn't she allow them?

A DM may be in charge of the game, but you should try to do everything on the basis of communication.

She may have her reasons....but I agree: without a good reason, there's no base for the DM to deny a certain domain.
But I could imagine several circumstances under which I wouldn't allow certain domains.

She doesn't have either book. They seem balanced and everything to me, but she may not allow say a Forgotten Realms domain in her game. I think it applies to any campaign, but she may not.
