Who would you suggest?
Thinking of starting a new game...
Already on a sidenote i'm not very good at finishing these games it always seems that halfway through i get some new idea and need to start all over again...
I like the start of the game and the struggling middle where battles are still difficult and infinitely rewarding...end-game wise everyone on their own is a veritable power-house capable of taking on anything...
But enough about that...
I was thinking of a well-rounded evil party that would include Korgan up front,Viconia as a cleric, Jan as a thief, and me and Edwin as pure spellcasters.
This obviously leaves "poor" Korgan pretty lonely up there so i was thinking of adding someone more melee up there...
Personally it's a tossup between Anomen(have him fail his test)fighter + his limited usefulness as a back-up cleric
Jaheira(from what i've heard on the forums she is a much better tank than i gave her credit for)
or Haer'Dalis the tiefling bard since everyone is praising him as well
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated since i just can't make up my mind
Oh and one more thing which i'm sure you've noticed...I'm trying to roleplay keeping their alignments in mind

Consider Chloe, a neutral kensai demi-god. Rather too powerful, IMO, but very nicely done, with some excellent dialog.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.
Well... currently playing a party that looks a bit like yours :
- PC (Swashbuckler/Fighter)
- Korgan (Main tank)
- YouKnowWho (In ToB, 2nd Tank)
- Viconia (Healer, Undead Huntress)
- Edwin (Spellcaster)
- Tsujatha (Spellcaster + Romance... my PC is a Good Female (strange in an Evil party, but I have my own roleplay reasons for her to be *Good*)
If you want to stay with your PC as a spellcaster, you could download Valen's NPC mod, wich add an Evil thief. One-Days NPCs (or any other NPC mods, such as Alora's) have single-classe thieves (vanilla or kitted). You could also, like me, have a thief (half-thief is good too). If you still want to be a caster, here's an option :
- PC (Swashbuckler 10 / Mage X)
- Viconia
- Korgan
- Edwin
- ???
- ???
Not sure if you NEED 2 other NPCs... since this way you'll have 2 mages, 1 (half) thief, the best tank ever plus a decent backup tank (Swashbuckler/Mage looks a bit like F/M/T), and one of the best (if not THE best) cleric in the game!
Add to this team, and you're near unbeatable. You can add another char for Banters (Haer'Dalis would be cool, a romance (if you're not romancing Vic.), etc. NPCs from Mods are another option. You could also create a 2nd custom character (Anti-Paladin from Tactics would fit perfectly... Sorcerer would add power to your party, bard would add diversity, thief (Assassin?) would add tactical fightning... etc.)
- PC (Swashbuckler/Fighter)
- Korgan (Main tank)
- YouKnowWho (In ToB, 2nd Tank)
- Viconia (Healer, Undead Huntress)
- Edwin (Spellcaster)

Guys guys guys.Take it easy. You need to chill out.
Do you know how funny that was?You going :
Oooh ooh you could do this....or...ooh ooh you could do that...
I only have the original game with its 16 NPC's.(+TOB)
AND IM'N NOT ABOUT TO MESS A GOOD THING UP!
This was supposed to be(well actually meant to be) more like a pro and con discussion regarding my choosing of one of the following 3 NPC's:Anomen the fallen, Jaheira or Haer'Dalis to fulfill the role of back-up fighter aiding Korgan.
Sigh...but i should have seen it coming...you ranting on on some mod or SK'ed stuff or other custom characters
So i felt the need to clarify...
Don't hate me for it

Messing things up? That's exactly what I thought. Then I tried TDD beacause things got bored after doing it all over again and again. No matter how good the game are, things do get boring after a couple of times. I also tried Dungeon-be-Gone after being able to complete Chateau Irenicus while sleeping.
Then, one char here, some items there... Mods aren't that bad, you know, and it's fun to support people who actually spends so much time to moderate/improve the game.
But enough rambling. Why does everyone want so many characters? Korgan is enough for a fighter, especially as Viconia with her agility, armor and magic res is able to withstand quite some damage as well.
What I'd do with your party is getting rid of Edwin. Sure, he is a bloody good spellcaster, but with yourself and Jan you're not going to need him. It's better to level up the others (and thus gaining a better tank...)
If you really need another tank (and isn't near ToB as there's a way to obvious answer there) I'd go with Jaheira. Tanking seem to be the only thing she can do that is of use for the party.

Never tried Anomen the Fallen, but he doesn't seem *Evil* enough to stay with your team... roleplay-wise.
Haer'Dalis is a thiefling... so half-deamon... wich *WOULD* makes an excelent candidat for an Evil party if he wasn't such a jackass (as Germain St-Baird said!)
Also... Jaheira doesn't seem to fit here...
------------
Options I would pick from :
Option1
- PC (Mage)
- Jan
- Korgan
- Viconia
- Edwin (or no Edwin... doesn't need him since you have Jan/PC)
***
Option2
- PC (Thief(Swashbuckler?)/Mage or any half/plain thief)
- Edwin
- Korgan
- Viconia
***
Option3
- PC (Mage)
- Jan
- Edwin (or not...)
- Korgan
- Viconia
- Fallen Anomen
Personnally, I would just go with Option2 (if I want my game unmodded)... powerful party, with great banters (evil ones!). I like to play with small parties... and you could add a certain guy from ToB if you want more tanking power...

So now i've got Thrifalas suggesting i should take Jaheira because tanking is the only thing she could do in the party...
And SP101 saying Haer'Dalis would fit the party role-play-wise...only to later state one of his options for a party would be taking fallen Anomen along...and none of these options is really well...argumented
YOU draw any sensible conclusion from this???!!!
I'm as baffled as i was before...
Or maybe just fussy but i don't want to go halfway through the game again to realize i've made a mistake...
So i ask you yet AGAIN...who would you take along out of these 3(Anomen, Haer'Dalis or Jaheira)+including any possible reasons why
And I don't care about reducing the number of NPC's to less than 6 or dropping someone i already chose to take along...
I don't want to be stepping on anybody's toes since i'm relatively new to the forums but please...i beg of you...try to read the posts and the questions in them more carefully...
It's just a question people....just...a....question...
(collapses exasperated)

If you want roleplay take Haer'Dalis!
In fact each one of these 3 NPC could be used as tanks.
Jaheira has Iron Skin and druid spells, Anomen can heal but I just don't like those guys.
Their voices are SOOO annoying. Jahira always trying to tell me what to do, and Anomen is making his stupid comments on my every action, telling that he would certanly done better.
And Dalis is my favorite character.
Firstly, I like Doomguards (that starts from Planescape phylosophy). And he is from Sigil too.
Secondly, he can be used as a tank (with StoneSkin) and as a mage with fireballs.
Yes, he does not get high-level spells, but how often do you use those spells in the game? Rarely! Even if you have to kill dragon/demon/some other big-bad-guy. And there are not many such foes in the game.
So why bother with powerfull spells, when you can kill everyone without them?
But lowlevel fireball is very useful.
And even if Haer'Dalis runs out of spells and gets some really hard damage - he can still be useful with his bard song. (If you upgrade it)
Not to mention that he is the only character of all 3, who can take Carsomir.
Perhaps, he has a little low THAC0, but just get him right equipment.
BTW,
Noone is SUPPOSED to help you. You can just ASK for help.
And people are just telling you their opinions - trying to help you make your party better, mind you.

Take Jaheira. You've got enough spellcasters, so you can do without Dalis. Furhermore, Viconia is all the cleric you need. You could, however, use some nice Druidic powers. Also, Anomen isn't fit for a evil party IMO, and even though Jaheira tends to act good, she still is a neutral character. To sum it up: take Jaheira, because she is a druid, can fight well and has the correct alignment.

I agree with Sytze, Jaheira can be useful with her druidic spells and she quite good in combat. But siriosly I just keep her for fun, for romance. I would take Anomen even if he wasn't fallen. His Lawful Neutral algiment don't fit, but I think it doesn't realy matter.

Man, chill down. I know you say you want some answers and want to play the game, but I believe the best thing to do is to play the game the first time through with your own ideas. Just choose someone, if it doesn't work out, who cares, it is just a game.
That said, it all comes down to your fighting style. If you want someone who will act like a fighter, then choose Anomen. If you want someone who is really effective with spells being put on them choose Jaheria. If you want a different type of fighter, who when utilised correctly can become awesome, choose Haer.
Considering you have three casters, I would say you don't need Haer, as it would be better to choose a fighter.
Also, you have the strongest CLERIC (as in the one who will get the most levels the quickest) so you may not want Anomen.
Therefore Jaheria could be a good choice, just first you might want to read some strategies on how to affectively use her.
As I say it is up to you, and I know you want to play, so sometimes it is best to take a stab in the dark, we learn by our mistakes.

It seems everyone keeps saying Haer is awesome. I'll have to give him a try someday...I couldn't put him to any use . But to my defense, I wasn't very good at the game at all (or isn't that a good defense? )

Nizid, please take the time to familiarize yourself with our site owner's forum rules. Take especial note of the following:
#1 - Flaming, humiliating, ridiculing, or belittling other members will not be tolerated. If you have an issue with another member, take it to private messages or email.
We enforce these rules strictly. We also believe in net etiquette, so no shouting at folks, either.
If you find yourself getting steamed up, leave the computer--or at any rate, leave GameBanshee for the moment. And if you honestly don't feel that our BG2 forum people are helpful or providing the material you need, then it's probably best to seek elsewhere. It's certainly better than getting banned from the site after repeated warnings about losing one's temper.

Let's get back to the topic and try to help this guy out here. It seems he wants a real simple party presented to him, without the role-playing reasons and flavours. So I suggest we do it like this:
Best fighter:
Best cleric
Best thief
Best wizard
etc...
So he can choose from the different classes and set up an own party fairly easy.

Well sticking up for the community is laudable...solidarity and all that.
The only thing i care for is that i am finally getting some worthwile answers.
In my defense i can only state:Read above!
From a neutral standpoint you might find it hilarious but for me it definitely wasn't.Me trying to wrestle an answer from people who didn't bother reading what i had asked of them.
But thanks to the wise words of dj_venom(who also offered an ingenious solution to having and keeping jaheira in an evil party) i eventually calmed down and i am willing to put it all behind me since people playing Baldur's Gate 2 can't be all that bad.
To please the throng of Jaheira fans (Sytze i was sure you'd favor her) out there i was also inclining towards her ever since i heard she could take out all the pure fighters with the right spell preparations.

In that case, I'd like to quote myself (oh my, this always feel so special) from the current Best Party-thread:
"Korgan - IMO the best melee fighter. There are many good Axes (Fire, Ice) and Hammers (Thrower, CF) to be found in the game.
Mazzy - IMO the best ranged fighter, of course equipped with a Short Bow (Gesen, Tancheron's, Tuigan).
Jaheira - IMO the best Druid, as Cernd's transformation takes to much time anyway, and she doubles as a Fighter with Ironskin, Belm or Blackblood and a good Shield.
Anomen - IMO the best Cleric, as he blows up Undead directly rather than just charming them, and with his good STR, many HPs and (later on) ***** in Sling (Everard) and/or Flail (FoA) he makes a very good job as Fighter as well.
Jan - IMO the best Thief, as he's the only one that will progress in this Class. Also doubles as a Specialist Mage!
Edwin - IMO the best Mage due to his bonus spells and a restricted school you can live without.
That makes six already, so where does the PC come in? Simply make up the character you wanna play, and exclude the NPC above that is most like your PC."
In this particular case, I would go for Jaheira or Cernd, as he would otherwise stand without the excellent Druid spells.
