weird conflict between bg2-soa/tob and windows

just today tob started workin really slow and
i quit the game and checked out what programs were running with ctrl-alt-del and
there was like a ton of the same program wscript running. my windows is in finnish so im not quite sure how it goes in english but
when shutting down the program it
says "program doesn't answer" or something like that... just a direct translation from finnish but i hope someone knows what i mean.
i uninstalled bg and when i started reinstalling it i suddenly noticed the installation slowing down... so i stopped the installation and checked the programs again and an another thousand of wscripts were running. only thing that i found out about it that it's full name is windows script(ing??) host. is this because of windows or a virus or is it bg??
help me out before my computer notices that it on a freefall from my window on the 9th floor.

Sounds like a nasty bug. Have you checked the [url="http://www.bioware.com/bgate2/bg2issues.shtml"]Known Issues page[/url] at Bioware's site? They may have a fix. To rule out a virus, you'll need to run a virus scanner on your system.

"program doesn't answer" - The message Windows gives in English is "Program is not responding" - you get this message when a program "hangs" (quits working without closing).

I got the same problem with my SOA.

I also tryed reinstalling but the installation seemed to hang up. I reinstalled Windows and the game went on pretty good. This seems to be a common bug. Some of my friends got it too.

Windows is almost a Virus. Once in the week Windows crashes on my PC. (one time the bastard did it when I was fighting a VERY imortant fight-and-quest... had to start all over again, SH*T)

Click on start/programs/accessories/system info.

There is a drop down menu called 'tools'. Go down to system configuration.

Click on the 'start up' tab. What items are checked?

thanks. i quess i'll reinstall windows because when bg's installation started to freeze i stopped it and now i can't remove the bg "the right way" and so i cant install
it either. if anyone can think of something more about this situation you have a few hours before i got the time to install windows again. which btw is one of the most annoying things on earth... during it i usually relieve myself by picturing bill gates tortured and murdered...

get a perfect install of windows on your system, and use an imaging program like ghost to taka snapshot of it. back up to extended partition of your hard drive.
Burn to cd rom. If you use a system intended for games you need one. Use boot disk and completely wipe c: before installing a new game. No aggrevation, and perfect system for any and all games.

Note, this will not work for Windows me, since the bugger is around 1.2 gigs installed with all options. My ghost got it down to 800meg, still too big to fit on one cd rom. anway, any of you bright guys know what ME stands for ? Multiple errors....

****WARNING do at computers own risk****

If you are an advanced user you can go to run and type in msconfig, this should bring up a window which dictates what programs begin at startup, if you go through all of the options and turn off the non-relevant programs this might help clear things up. The only things you need are scan registry and system tray, be careful when doing this, it might lead to complications

i installed windows again and i still had to
remove bg2 from the applications register and that wscript kept on popping up... but i shutted down everything running at the same time and now it seemed work just fine.
off the topic stuff now... the promises that
win98 keeps on throwing at your face "less bugs!!" "no more blue screens!!" "faster internet!!" yeah right...

Well, bad luck, guys.

I can also suggest you doing the smallest install, cuz errors don't appear on CDs they appear on HDD. Also, scan your C drive (or any other) for errors and do throughout (advanced) test once a week. Also defragment your drive. You may say it's stupid, but it REALLY HELPS. And as I already said try reinstalling Windows.

There are a few applicaions out there that will take an image of a hard drive partition, and create a "Image" file of it. So if your laptop has a c and d drive, like my personal pc, what you do is buy or aquire such an application, read very carefully the isntructions, and then create an image file that takes a snapshot of the drive in a known good state.

For example, your nely bought laptop is ot all the programs for internet access and all your mail passwords cached in the current c: drive. so, get imagecast, and then run it, and then save the very large image file to the d: drive. So if I was doing this, I have my standard c: drive and in my d: drive I have a file called "fullbak.img" file, which will be about 70% of the size of the partition you are imaging. The fastback (I think thats the name of such a product) has pretty good instructions and explainations of the process. Now I would connect computer to a cd burner, and then copy the fastback execuatble and the image to a cd-r cdrom. this way, if you get a os problem you cannot fix, use a windows boot disk, and insert thte cd rom, then run the fastback app from the cd rom and re install the os from the cd rom you've created. You only need to install anything else you need since the original image backup.

I take a backup every year using ghost ( a professional version of this) just in case. This becomes complicated with Windows ME (Windows Multiple Errors) since the os cocupies around 1.2 gigs, and the image file created must be SPANNED to multiple cd roms. Your cd rom burner application will have help topics on this. Just go to the GOOD tech in your comany, the helpful one and have them help you. They will do it for sure with a work/home pc, because they are people who appeciate the user taking out insurance that will save them a lot of time in the future, and might help you with a home system if you ask nice. take them out to lunch, and they will help you for sure.

I have lost many a hard disk to defragmenting, be careful. It is a good idea to defragment, but use some of the optimised prgrams like Nortons speed disk etc. THe microsoft one causes as many problems as it solves
