Just saw that listed on the Typhoon Games website, figured I'd pass it on.

So, no automapping until the third update. Damn, that's annoying. I wonder if they'll deal with the crazy spawning, spawning while checking inventory, inability to change various visual settings, inactive scouting and parry, etc? Guess we'll just have to wait, and see.

Hah! I just finally ran into this yesterday. Usually when I leave the game, I shut down. But I had to answer the phone, so I just went into the inventory screen figuring I had "paused" the game. I came back about 2 hours later, unpaused, and wham! A sea of monsters came at me from every direction. They must have been spawning the entire time, just frozen in place until I came back. There were several dozen groups of monsters at least, looked like a hundred. Who knows? I was way dead, and it wasn't even worth trying to revive, I just would have been dead again in seconds. I had to reload a savegame.

If you want guarantees, speak to the developers. What I've heard is that it appears likely saved games will not be playable with the new patch.

I took it to mean that the third patch will break saves, but the second one wouldn't. Of course, the second patch would actually have to be released in order to test this, wouldn't it?

The impression I'm geting upon reading the developer's comments now lead me to think the 1.3 patch will break savegames, but the 1.2 patch won't necessarily do so. This is what he writes, at the conclusion of discussing 1.2:
"Update 3 is planned to contain automap functionality and character customization. These heavy issues have to be addressed all at once, as they create compatability issues with earlier savegames/multiplayer versions."
...So logically, if he points out that certain fixes are being moved back to 1.3 because of compatibility issues, that implies 1.2 does not have that compatibility problem.
On the other hand, the 1.2 patch isn't finished, and compatibility issues could still arise. I'd also like to believe that HP is speaking straight about this; but there's an admittedly small, niggling doubt in my mind planted by that line in their 1.0 release readme file that stated automapping had been removed because they wanted to increase the roleplaying experience. So we'll just have to wait, and see. HP has a vested interest in making this game work. Let's hope for the best.
