I sort of floundered my way through it but my son is having a heck of a time with the shadow gates on the "floating islands".
Is there a pattern to which gates you need to take to get through to the portals on each one?
Like I was taking the shadow gates that had the 3 big rocks right next to them for a while and that worked. But the next time it didn't lol.
Confusing!
The shadow lands question: is there a pattern?

You need to draw a map every time you get sent to a new set of shadow islands. That is if you can't seem to find your way out of a situation. Each set is a closed loop, with a finite set of islands and a solution.
There is a pattern you can discern. Each island has 2 portals. They are distributed in one of the following patterns: N/S, E/W, NE/SW, or NW/SE. Draw a circle and note where the portals are set on the compass and which one has 3 stalagmites and which one has 4 of them to the left of the portal. One always has 4 and the other always has 3 stalagmites nearby. Then, note the location of floating islands nearby, n, s, e, w, se, ne, nw, sw, and whether they are above, below, or on the same plane. This way you know if you have been on this island before.
Then, its a relatively simple matter of connecting the dots, so to speak, for where each portal leads you. Draw arrows from specific portals to the islands they take you to. Its all about the 3's and 4's as a series of jumps that will eventually take you to a doorway and when appropriate, also to a chest.
Hope this makes sense and is helpful.
