Druid & Cleric Combo

Post by Noghri »

Hi all!

For a new campaign I am planning to play a Druid & Cleric Combo class. Does anybody of you have experience playing such a class? I would like only to use cleric spells when this character is in his natural habitat, which off course would have to be a wildlife kind of setting.

In cities and around a lot of people, his deity wouldn't allow him to use his cleric spells because off concentration checks. These are my thoughts, maybe some off you can help me around with some other ideas?! I am thinking of a wood elf as his race.

Thanx in advance!

Hmm, just your spells from your Cleric class? That would severly restrict your character, having Druid spells and not using them, wouldn't it?

I haven't tried that combo, just because it would seem to be that you'd have a ton of low level heal and buff spells and not much of else. Your shapeshifting would be low, turning undead low, etc. It might be interesting to play though.

It seems kinda superfluous to go cleric/druid. First off, spells. Though you may be able to cast more spells, they are at lower levels. Secondly, the abilities. Turn undead would become of utmost uselessness to you as would the beginning wild shape. If you were cleric/druid 5/5, then you would have wild shape at it's base form and that could get you the shape of a wolverine. At tenth level, a full cleric could kick the arse of a wood elf with wolverine physical stats. A full druid in it's wild shape form at 10th level could wipe out the cleric/druid with its simple wolverine form. Also, if you don't take the feat that lets you cast spells in youe wild shape, then you are completly screwed in your character.

So, if you really want to do this, then this is what I suggest.

5 levels of Druid to start. Then, take 1 level of cleric with the feat that lets you cast spells in wild shape. Don't put the bigger ability score in wisdom. Put an average one, IE 12-14. Put the biggest score in constitution or strength indefinatly. Then, with your remaining scores, use your second biggest and third in the remaining physical. Put the rest in Int and Cha.
Something like this if you get this-
str- 14
dex-15
con-17
int- 10
wis-13
cha- 9

Skills, unimportant. Do what you wish on those. Feats to think about-

power attack (if strength based)
Weapon finesse (if dextrous based)
Weapon focus (Claw [if using wild shape constantly], simple weapon of at least 1d6 damage [if regular melee])
The wild shape spell casting feat.
improved initiative (in case of needed start buff like shield of faith)

Spells-

if you go melee, get buff spells like Shield of Faith and Divine Favor/Power.
If you go Dexterity based, get status spells like Slow, haste, fly, entangle.

Domains-
Nature
Plant

This is all a suggestion, but it's totally up to you.

It goes you, the dirt, the worms inside of the dirt, Popo's stool, Kami, then Popo.

I can't imagine this being a good combo.
If you do try it, I would leave wildshape for what it is and only use it for rp reasons (like scouting or spying).
Go for a normal tank, elven form. Boost yourself with your spells and specialise in normal combat, I'd go for melee but I suppose ranged could also be an option.
Guinness is good for you.
Gives you strength.

some combos are so much hard work that you will end up frustrated when other players advance quicker than you do , unless all the players in your group multi class , IMHO multiclassing is cool but takes patience and dedication .
i dont think druid/cleric is a good idea , when you multiclass i think you should try to mix different areas ie fighter/mage ranger/cleric but that is just my take on it .

A cleric with the animal and plant domains is nature-y enough to pass for a druid to the casual observer.

First of all, thanks a lot for your reactions.

I thought it be a really cool combo, but I must say I haven't looked very good into both classes to verify if it's also a smart idea. I haven't got much experience with both the druid and cleric class. I will overthink it a bit.

thanks!
