greenstone amulets

Post by Koren »

although the item description for the greenstone amulet i pickpocketed off my mordenkainen's sword says it uses charges, it appears if i simply equip it the "mind shield" icon appears on my character...does this mean that the amulet protects against mind spells just being equipped and without being activated via charge, contrary to what the item description says?

After what I've read in forums and websites, that is actually correct, it seems to be a bug with the amulet gotten from Moderkaine sword - other greenstone amulets uses charges.

Try it out in the mindflayer section of the sewers... I did and found I was not "protected" even though the icon said so. Once I "used" it's single charge though, that descrambled my brain.

The only other thing is puzzling is that I am pretty sure I should not have had access to those actions while my brain was scrambled anyway... so maybe it works sort of?

Hmm...so there's 2 kinds of Greenstone Amulet:
-the ones you get from Mordenkain's Swords
-the one found in the Beholder Dungeon

Is this right?

Noting grinder's observations, a character can have funky spell effects floating around their head, and new spell icons indicating that they were confused/held/charmed/whatever, but if he has that amulet he will still be unaffected. Don't know why, but it's like what happens to skeletons that have been hit with confusion spells; they just aren't even though the spell effects are whizzing around their skulls.

Does this work on stun spells though? My experience says not...

1. There are really 2 types of the Greenstone amulets - the "normal" one and the "sword's" one. The sword's amulet has one charge (which is not used) and an extra-charge is already active and which is not time limited. Obviously, the sword's amulet is a result of laziness in programming.
2. The Greenstone amulet DOES NOT protect against INT-draining. It DOES protect against stun and similar spells.
3. The extra-charge of the sword's amulet can be dispelled by Dispel Magic-like spells. When the extra-charge is dispelled, the sword's amulet becomes a normal amulet.
4. You can recycle the sword's amulets through a merchant. This gives you a sword's amulet with 50 normal charges.
I recommend having 2 sets of Greenstone amulets: one set recycled through a merchant and used as normal amulets and another set for the Illithid Lair (Mind Flayers do not cast Remove Magic as far as I know).
