Trying to fix a mistake re: Mod Installation *rolleyes*

Post by dragon wench »

I may have really screwed up... and er... Mea Culpa..

I am playing Qarl's Underground...

My companion will lead me to a certain NPC's abode and state that we have arrived. I click on the door, and I get a message telling me that a 'magical forcefield is preventing me from entering without my companion.' I have not asked my companion to wait, nor have I rested or anything like that during the trip.
I am extremely absent-minded and forgetful. So although I read the readme thoroughly, I ended up on autopilot at a point late one night, and installed Ice's Hideaway after having already begun a new game with The Underground . Installing mods after a game with The Underground has already been started is something Qarl expressly indicates to be a bad idea. Yes, I know..... DUH on my part....

When I loaded my game up the next day, I received an error message saying that some kind of script relating to Johny (my companion) could not be found. I immediately realised I could have messed up, but I decided to try playing anyway. And everything appeared fine, until trying to get into the one NPC's residence. I suspect that Ice's Rambo companion scripting may have overwritten something. *sigh*

This morning, as a last ditch effort (since I'd like to avoid a complete reinstall if at all possible), I tried using the Testool. Then I loaded up my game. To my surprise and delight, I was able to open the door. Okay, that is where I made my second mistake, I should have saved at this juncture, but of course I didn't.... When I tried to get back in.. I was once more prevented entry due to the magical forcefield requiring my companion. Thinking I had, to a point, licked the problem with Tes, I just reloaded, with the intention of marking inside the NPC's shack, in the hope it would circumvent the problem. But..... upon reload, I was back to the same issue. I have tried several different save games, all with the same result.

Before I begin to dump everything and reinstall all over again, I'm wondering is there any way for me to go into the construction set and remove the forcefield? (note: I am not at all tech oriented...)

I have tried to check Qarl's forums but they appear unavailable, I have also checked the forums where Qarl has the mod posted, but I've found nothing.
I have emailed Qarl, but I suspect he's a busy guy, or he might not get my note, or he'll figure I'm an idiot and decide not to reply :D

Anyway,
if anyone has any sort of tech solutions, I'd be most obliged. BTW, seeing as I am not all that tech savvy, I find the construction set a bit confusing... so er... in layman's terms please. :o ;)

All I can suggest is PMing Qarl, up at the Elder Scrolls Morrowind Mods forum, here. Qarl's a pretty nice guy. If he can't help you, you could always start a thread in the forums, though you'll be laughed at scornfully by at least a few of the social malcontents.

Don't feel bad, I did the same, I loaded Balmora retexture mod and lost the door to the underground night club ( can't go in without a door ). Tried to remove the retexture........didn't work. But I had a previos save game without the retexture and it seemed to work fine. I also get a similar error message and Morrowind would crash on startup, couldn't even gat back into the game. Lucky for me it took an older save.

@ Fable and Fred,
thanks! :)

I actually don't feel quite as dense anymore. I headed to the Elder scrolls forum as Fable suggested, and from there found a link in Qarl's sig that led to a working forum. After reading some posts there, I've deduced that my problem is not entirely unique, and seems to happen if you don't have the mod's patch. The only problem is that I still need to completely reinstall the game if I use the patch. That being the case, I am more inclined to wait until The Underground Two comes out, which should be sometime soon apparently. In the meantime I'll work on building up yet another character, which bites because I really like my present one (a Bosjiit, which is a cross between a Bosmer and Khajiit). So, I'll likely just reproduce her.

It's a good thing I like playing stealth-based characters, it will make regaining my levels a touch easier

*sigh*

If you still have this problem, I can give you a few quick steps to manually remove the forcefield in the editor.

Actually, if you could lay out some steps on how to do that manually in this thread, I think anyone here who is playing "The Underground," would really appreciate it, since I gather the mod can be a bit buggy throughout.

Um... please bear in mind, I'm pretty hopeless with the construction set, so er.. in "Dummy" language please :o  :D

I uninstalled everything again, but at some point I will either play "The Underground," when the second version comes out, or I'll install the present one with its patch.
