Trial of elders banshee
Trial of elders banshee
I]'m in the trial of Elders at the cage trial. When i first enter the 1st room the banshee boss attacks me. I've tried fighting her and it seems i do no damage before she kills me. i tried running to the chests while taking damage and i get killed. I'm level 10 Fighter-marauder/adept-celestial. level 5 in light weap, medium weapons, light dual wield. I've got level 5 in celestial magic and channel. is there some strategy that works for the banshee?

I'm basically the same specialization as you and the way I did it was attack the hell out of her til she started to cast a spell, shield up and just take the beating, and repeat. Took quite a while so I don't know if thats much help to ya as far as strategy is concerned. Maybe it's some relief to know someone else suffered too, peace mein.
Did you try reading this section? The banshee is pretty slow, so as long as you can dodge her once, you should be able to avoid her and loot the necessary chests.

Sir Edmund: "Should you obey the lord who asks you to put a village of innocents to the torch? Is that chivalrous? Is it noble?"
Me: "It's a great way to get promoted, I know that much."

Best bet with the banshee is to try and lure her into one of the small rooms and basically beat the heck outta her. She will cast that one spell a few time a minute for a while, but then will dramatically slow down and cast it maybe once every few minutes. She doesn't frop anything, but is still good for experience. Whenever she casts the spell, just block. But, be sure to have a few extra shields unless you happen to have one that has magic resistance. Those shields will take a beating. Healing potions/crystals will be a good thing as well.
Umm... You can have her chase you around, then you run up to the cage. If you navigate to the side of the cage that will be parallel to where the banshee would be, she will become stuck in the cage. You can do two things here: 1) Manuever so you can shoot through the gaps in the bars of the cage with a ranged, and spend 45 minutes taking her down or, 2) once she is stuck, go near her, commence to let loose a bombardment of melee attacks, then when she begins to cast, backflip out (if possible, but I always take athletics to 4. That backflip is vital for me). You can turn, then run and jump away from her, but not near as effective or as fast in avoiding damage done by the Banshee's special. With a Fighter/Marauder, I can kill her in less than 10 minutes by going in, meleeing (With an elven war dagger and a katana), then backflip out when she casts. I take minimal damage, so only a few potions are necessary (if all the random elf spirit spawns are done, which can be done by saving your game in that trial, exit, then load it again).
For me, this tactic, if you are able to, works better than wasting shields that youll need later on, and trying to fight that scream of hers (the shrieking star kinda spell). Even with a non-Duel wielder, its by far faster than using just ranged (unless of course your melee is a P.O.S.)

You stare upon the perch,
The sight forces your somach's lurch.
The sight you see,
Is Death glaring back at thee.
You gave it a hum,
You let it run,
Now all you see,
Is the mirror that bleeds.

take your time
throwing weapons are the best. walk backwards w/automap on in any one of the rooms. if you keep plenty of distance from her, you can keep hitting her while keeping your own stats up--this also keeps her from shooting at you, she only does this within a certain distance. this does take time, but the points are well worth it, keep this idea through the whole trial & you should rake in quite a few points.

I hope you haven't saved in that room if so you may have bigger problems then fireballs. I can think of a number of things to do before you go in to the trial that will make that room easier (buy fire wards, divine intervention) but now that your there try running around, not stopping to attack things, till the fireball throwing elder guy has killed everything for you or at least lightened your load. If you keep moving he will usually miss. Don't stay too close to the walls as the fireballs splash. D
What I do in the Fire Sprout section, is basically just do hit and runs... let the boss for that section help deal damage with the fire balls. When the white lightning (for lack of a better word) begins to come out of one of the pads, step on it ASAP. That will keep the spirit from manifesting. Helps with crowd control. If you've loaded in this trial, you will not be able to finish it, as all manifesting of spirits end when you load a game in that section (aswell as many of the other places). You can only get pass this section by withstanding the wave of spirits, and then jumping on the platform when it is lowered.
