I'm playing the Dragon's eye for the first time and am finding it confusing. There are so many people and I have little idea who they are. I figure if they are named I should talk to them and find out whats going on before killing...
Anyhow, after having to reload at the Guardian save point (since I forgot to save besides quicksaves and I messed up my game argghhh!!!)...I broke down and consulted a walkthrough.
I'm a little bit confused. The guide says that I shouldn't rest as it can adversely affect some other event (probably the time stasis casting?).
My question is when CAN I rest? I assume you have to rest some time between Kuldahar and the end of the game! But I'm scared to rest; I don't want to play for 20 hours and then have to do it again (kill off the same "random mobs").
The first level I used up: 1 animate dead, 1 acid fog, and a magic missile (to scare off izballah). Then I summoned 4 animate dead for the interior. Cast a mass haste for the room with loads of guys plus a stoneskin and a tremor. So I believe I was fairly efficient although I only have 5 animate dead castings left...hmmm....And I also used a heal spell as someone got thrashed by the ancient wyvern...
Also does anyone know if its worth it to get the holy avenger if my party is all evil? Will I get decent XP? Anyone done it with no pally? It sounds like a hard battle....
Also does anyone know how many locked unpickable unbashable chests are there? How many knock spells do I need...I used one to get a rope. It kind of irks me that the treasure isn't worth a spell but here I am using it to get a piece of common rope? aren't adventurers supposed to carry that (along with 10 foot poles, stakes, etc )? I spent 6 levels of one character in the thief class just so I can open up the GD chests!

AFAIK the only level you shouldn't rest is the last one of Dragon's Eye!
I also read that you shouldn't rest to much in Dragon's Eye - but I never get any problems, even if I rested several times in DE!
Maybe this is some misinformation or it will have an effect if you rest extensivly - but as long as you just rest ~5 times, this should be fine!
But I would definetly always save (not quicksave) before I enter a new map, especially before DE L4 as you shouldn't rest there (but never tried it - so no idea what would happen in this case!)
Resting on the fields of slaughter map should also be ok!

I have a Dragons Eye question that I hope somebody can help me with.
On level one I understand I have to turn a wheel on a rack in a torture chamber to open a prison door, but dammit, there is no turnable wheels or anything at all like in the torture chamber! Is this a bug or a crash? Or am I simple doing something stupid?
Help please! Its driving me crazy.

I think it was pretty small, and doesn't appear like a selectable container (no coloured box). AFAIK the use cursor appears (two arrows in a circle) when you are over the right place and then you should click to activate the wheel. So check very throughly and I don't remember if there is any notification that something has happened after you have clicked, so check for results afterwards.

I'm pretty sure everybody has problem with this, it took me several tries to find it, so I can assure you that it IS there...
Maybe some event triggers its appearance? If you have spoken to the prison door, it should be there... I can't reacall how many torture devices were there exactly, but it's to the left from the iron maiden.
As for resting: I rested as much as I needed and there was no problem (except for the last lvl, of course).
