Powerwise, who is stronger: Sarevok or Keldorn?
I'm trying to plan out a power party here, and I need a good tank.
These guys are both great tanks, and they both have access to awesome weapons.
Sarevok has Deathbringer Assault, Keldorn can summon Planetars. Sarevok can get to Grandmastery in weapons, Keldorn has Dispel Magic and True Sight.
Who do you think is a more powerful character?
With Holy Avenger in hand, Keldorn is stronger.
I say no. Give him a plain two handed sword, and walk the gameworld. Do the same with Sarevok. Without the elemental/specialpowers from the item, Keldorn powers almost GRANT him victory against mages and allow him to avoid sticky situations as a backstab, for once.
Hehe I'm still Keldy. Even though Savvy is funnier to play.

As you said they're both powerful fighters when they've got the right gear. I'd say Sarevok is probably the more powerful all out fighter, but Keldorn has got the summon deva, truesight & dispell which is all really handy stuff especially if he's got the holy avenger vs mages.
I suppose it depends on you and the rest of the party. I find that having the truesight & dispell being cast pretty much with 0 casting time is incredibly useful while my mages are concentrating on casting other spells.
Personally I like them both They're equally as powerful all up, who would be the most use with your current party? The all out major damaging fighter or someone who can still dish out the damage (albeit not quite as much) yet can back it up with some really great spells?

I killed a rabid rabbit! I'm experienced now!
I'd say that Sarevok is over-all a stronger character, as his wicked stats allow him to be one of the deadliest fighters, as well as an awesome fighter/thief of fighter/mage.
However, when rightly equipped, Keldorn has awesome powers. Carsomyr *is* after all so ridiculously strong... But well, Sarevok can also wield it (and with grand mastery) if you dual him to a thief.
So, um... to sum it up, Keldorn with Carso is the way to go if you want a tank, especially as Sarevok has so many more options of being powerful. You lack thieving skills, or maybe spellpower? Sarevok can do it all! ^^
But well, to REALLY sum it up, they're both really overpowered. Whoever you pick will do the job, so go with the one who fits your character/party best. If you're a good character with a party full of aeries and anomens, go Keldorn. Otherwise, go Sarevok.
Personally I'd never even consider letting someone tank instead of Sarevok. Carso usually goes to another character anyway. If something, I'd have them both... Ouch, that's one butt-kicking frontline for you!

Both are strong.
Keldorn has better overall abilities (True Sight, Carsomyr use), Sarevok is the better killing machine (deathbringer assault is great, grand mastery in halberds is achievable and grants perfect weapon choice). Dualing Sarevok is fun, but keeping him single class is probably the better way to max him out.
For a very strong party you may take them both, Keldorn as a mage killer, Sarevok against everything else.

My experience w/TOB: I had a Cleric, Keldorn, Minsc, Jaheira, Imoen, and Sarevok (replacing Aerie).
Keldorn used Carsomyr & Necaradan's Crossbow (w/Case of Plenty).
Sarevok used Ravager, Firetooth Crossbow, & Psion's Blade (for those pesky Mind Flayers).
Each game day, I would rotate Vhailor's Helm between the two of them. You know, for the Simulacrum ability: 1 Keldorn & 2 Sarevoks, 1 Sarevok & 2 Keldorns... complimented by Minsc & Boo... whoa !!!
Both were absolutely amazing. Yet somehow, it seemed Sarevok was more susceptible to enemy magics, and Keldorn would bail him out with his Dispel Magic ability...
At some point, I just kept Vhailor's Helm on Keldorn: the party seemed to be better with a double of him. But, I loved having them both. Sarevok had interesting personality to contribute to said events.
My vote: tie. Take 'em both.

Why is it that whenever I finally get around to playing a new game for the first time,
I feel like playing Baldur's Gate for the second time...

I'd second that. Sarevok's personality and weight in the main story is a big reason to take him instead of Keldorn, but it's what best can be described as a tie. And do take them both if you have the party. No regretting there!

I agree I'd go with both of them; it's what I did when I played through. The only time I wouldn't go with both is if your main character happens to be a Paladin (particularly an Inquisitor) as then you're best off without Keldorn IMO. And for the love of God if your character is a mage take 'em both. You can figure out why for yourself later as that's just sick. Keldorn, Minsc, Boo, Sarevok, a horribly overpowered mage who can transform into a demon at will and then 2 more characters of your choice?? Yikes, dude, yikes.

IMO the worst thing that can happen is have your tanks getting confused, dominated, etc, and hacking chunks out of their mates. First time through ToB with Sarevok that happened a few times to me. Now on second run, with Keldorn, and it has not happened so far.
Though Deathbringer Assault is groovy.

(Sorry to dig up old stuff, but this is interesting)
But Sarevok has stats to die for.
Ok, they can both get STR 19-23 depending on which belt you give them, but Keldorn's very low DEX is a significant con. Sure, gauntles of Dex takes it up to Sarevok, but then Sarevok can don the Gauntles of Extroadinary specialization.
Sarevok can have Wong Fei Ioun stone aswell, which is great, and indeed Keldorn can get Carsomyr, but I beleive Sarevok with Gram sword of Grief and Death bringer assault more than makes up for Carsomyr's uberness.
Plus, Sarevok is much more specialized with 2H sword.
So basically, Sarevok can kick Keldorn's ass in tankness and fighting (Even if Keldorn summons deva['s]), and with the amount of wands of spell striking you pick up Watcher's Keep, Keldorn's dispel magic is equalled.
But I can't think of anything that counters Keldorn's True Sight...
