GET IT ON PC... You'll spend more, but you'll be happier with the mods. Also, the keyboard and mouse combo is beyond better to control your character. Of course, it means that if you have a mouse with a trackball you'll have to change it every now and then, but that'll happen at the same rate you'll have to change your controler, wich is really more expensive than a mouse.
PC, all the way.

And you can use emulators to run most console games pretty well on a PC. I suspect there will be an xbox emulator available at some point, but everybody's just a leetle afraid the legalities at the current time.
Yeah there equivalent but a PC can run TWO GPUs in SLI(scaleable link interface), ATI doesn't even have an SLI soulution as of yet.
Do some googling on "Crossfire", ATi announced it quite some time ago In my opinion, SLI is a waste of money when you compare the cost to the performance improvement. GPU's are the most expensive part of a gamer's pc, to buy 2 of them is a bit over the top.

Anyone else get Doom3 for both PC and Xbox? The PC version was about twice the size of the Xbox version. Oblivion might be the same-so not only might you have reduced content due to a lack of mods, but you also could have a smaller game out of the box.
BTW-MS and Toshiba didn't contract soon enough to put HD-DVDs in the first batch of 360's("the new gaming console may include HD-DVD drives. Considering that such a decision would postpone the launching date, Microsoft will equip the initial models with classic DVD drives, and only after the new HD-DVD are ready, the Xbox will incorporate them."), so dropping 300 on the launch date might not be such a good idea--and will definitely give you inferior graphics to a PC.

Keyword: emulators. Try finding emulators on the Xbox, Nintendo, Gamecube, etc. Aren't any, won't be. The PC is the only large gaming platform that has them, and they work well. That was my point.

The author of one Dreamcast emulator claims that with optimizations it could be ran on the Xbox.

Not sure if this has already been posted but the Xbox 360 version will be graphically superior to the PC version (this is what the developers of Oblivion have said). I will be going with the Xbox 360 version for sure for the following reasons:
a. I wont have to spend thousands getting a new PC or upgrading my current one.
b. I will be able to relax on my couch with a controller rather then sitting at my computer with a keyboard and mouse.
c. My TV's screen is much larger then my computer's screen.
d. The Xbox 360 version will be superior graphically to even the highest end gaming PCs.
e. [deleted by moltovir]
f. I won't have to deal with things like crashes and most likely not nearly as many gliches.

I imagine that is possible. The thing is, though, from what I have gathered the XBox version of Morrowind is identical to the PC version in terms of original content. So I'd be somewhat surprised if Besthesda changed tack like that...

You should check xbox forums (on xbox specific sites) and search for 'Morrowind crashing'(or failing, freezing, etc.) and you'll find that Morrowind didn't run well on fistfulls of Xboxes when it came out, due to the trash Thomson drives (and their substandard QA/QC) in most of the machines. Lockups, freezing, crashing and save corruption were pretty common, a lot more than you'd want from a console game that couldn't be patched. The worst thing about it was that if you had a Thomson drive that had problems with Morrowind there were plenty of other games (almost everything where the DVD was filled near capacity) where you could have the same problem. Fortunately the Thomsons are better than Philips and Toshiba at playing burned media, which is why most people buy a gaming console. (right? )

(you mean Oblivion, right?)I'd be surprised too, if not for the problems Morrowind had with the Thomson drives and their inability to handle a stuffed DVD. Of course this wouldn't be worth mentioning if Philips and Toshiba had met their supply targets for the initial Xbox release.
But I'm still waiting until the blu-ray 360s ship.

This is my first post, but I would just like to point out afew minor facts.
I am getting an Xbox360, and it seems like on the xbox360, oblivion will be better.
-The graphics are going to be better, with less bugs/glitches.
-You don't need a top of the range PC.
-Xbox 360's will come as cheap as £200 (in some places, if you search hard enough)
-You CAN mod, all you have to do is modify your xbox with a modchip (around £15 max)
-There is downloadable content, the same as the PC (expasion packs) -probally for free on the 360. (if not, it will be around £2 for each new download)
-You can chillout with the xbox360. Like me, I have a 46'' TV and I could chill in my bedroom with my surround sound and new dolby digital (better than any pc's sound)
-A controller! You may not like them, but the 360's newly designed analog sticks seem perfect, I prefer controllers than mouses.
-You could save alot more games on the 360 with its massive harddrive.
I am getting the 360 version, as it seems alot more promising, and I don't feel like spending a grand on a PC that will be slow in about another year.

You don't need it on the PC side of things, either, or has Bethsoft--as opposed to the usual gameplayer rumor mill--specifically said otherwise?

You can buy a high quality PC for not much more than that, and still use it to do all sorts of work and play requiring more than a few buttons. Plus, you get to surf the net.
-There is downloadable content, the same as the PC (expasion packs) -probally for free on the 360. (if not, it will be around £2 for each new download)
Official content, *not* player-made mods. This is a big difference, because there were fewer than ten official mods for Morrowind, and 4000+ mods. In addition, the official mods never pushed the game mechanics, while quite a few PC-based ones did, adding features that are now expected as "new" in Oblivion.

But Xylust, consider: if you buy the latest console because it's capable of playing the latest games, when a new crop of games come out that surpass those earlier requirements, you'll still need to get a new console. Whereas with the PC, you can just upgrade portions what you have.
And it would be no use saying that the bar for new titles isn't going to be raised in the future--so this will affect consoles just as it would PCs.
So then you have a PC, on which you can play all titles, past and present, as well as do everything else you need with a computer.

While the bell of truth that doth ringeth, my mind and my hands daren't play an FPS or an RPG that be not on console. The only games that i dare playeth on my personal computing machine beeth those of the Real time STrategy category.

xbox
i preordered a xbox 360 and oblivion. it is supposed to be that same as the pc.
for morrowind, i liked using the controller. it was easier for me to operate in the world, but i feel the combat/graphics were a little better on the pc because i didn't have a high quality tv.
ok, i'm not trying to fight you guys or make you buy a console.. however
1. a console is supposed to last 2-4 yrs. with that said - can anyone one of you say that you haven't spent money upgrading your pc equivalent to buying a new console with in that time frame? 300-400 dollars. i know i have and i have both pc and xbox
2. you say pc is better because games are console specific and you can play all your pc old games on new machine. that's not true. i have several games i can't get to run on my pc because of the OS or newer plugins. however, most of the unplayable games are between 5-10 years old. since playstations were backwards compatible and xbox 360 is supposed to be, that makes the life of a game longer. of course, you can't play ps games on xbox.
3. pcs have word processors and spreadsheets, etc. you don't need a state of the art pc to run wordpad, so you could just live with your older pc. most places such as school and work who need higher levels on computing power, let you have access to their programs, but we're talking about gaming. i don't need my H&R tax calculator to do lara croft's taxes during one of her missions, so i use the console.
in the end, i think that pcs are slightly better than consoles as they can more stuff, but when a pc does more stuff, it wasn't really made for gaming, was it? this is a never ending debate, imo. thank-you for considering me!
