Manhole covers problem

Post by armnhammer1 »

For some reason I can't get into the sewers at all even though it is required for "The Ghost Haunts at Midnight". I have tried many different manhole covers and come at them from lots of angles but they never give me the selection pop up. Any ideas? I have installed the 1.2 patch but it didn't make a difference.

There is no pop-up. They're special cases of doors. Walk up to one, crouch, and it should start glowing. Then right-click on it and you go through. Same from underneath, of course, without the crouching (necessarily).

I don't get any glow standing or crouched (except for lighting effects) and right clicking uses disciplines. Any other ideas?

Then I would have to say bona-fide bug. Your best bet is probably to uninstall and re-install.

well, after hours of messing around I got in the precise spot somehow (and I do mean precise) and was able to get a manhole cover off. I go to the access point A climb the ladder and can't get that manhole to open. In fact now that I am in there they all seem to be locked. Sigh, this was a pretty fun game intil this stuff started happening. Any suggestions?

Well, have you installed the various patches? The official and unofficial patches fix many people's problems. If you've already done this, well....your only real option is to try a complete uninstall/reinstall. I would imagine that this would fix your problem. Since you're not very far along into the game, it might be a good option.

I don't think it's quite that cardboard, Faust. I smell something else happening here. Why don't you tell use just *exactly* how you opened the manhole? Maybe a screen capture or something. This definitely smells weird, and I think there is a solution here. An easy one. Are you using an English-language game? What kind of computer? When you try from the bottom, do you look up so your cursor is over the manhole?

That's a good point. One think that occurs to me, is that it could be a mouse problem. I know I've had trouble with action command due to some settings. I'd play with the mouse options under the options menu, as well. Make sure "Mouse Look" is enabled, and play with mouse sensitivity.

These are just doors. I don't have much more trouble with them than with other doors - except that they don't cause an area reload, which is a good thing.

The standard key for opening doors and sewer entries is 'E'.

You can simply check it when scanning through the "keyboard" entries in your game options. I do that in every game... and I'm confused how many people don't do that and ask silly questions instead...

Wow, I never had this bug either. But I'd say re-load, and if that doesn't work to a complete uninstall/re-install.

@armnhammer1

Have you mapped Use function to a mouse key maybe?

And what popup did you expect to see when selecting the cover? It should behave like a door...
ROMERO: If you should see any zombies in that time, you need to put them down. Just don't let them bite you.
PC: Why? Do you turn into a zombie if they bite you?
ROMERO: Naw, it just hurts like a bitch.
