...they're going to turn BG3 into a NeverWinters Night? Dropping the whole large group more turned based system for the more active one on one action style of NWN?
Which would ya'll prefer? The action styles of NWN or the triditional styles of the will loved BG/IWD gameplay?

I found Neverwinter Nights -- Main-character <-> Henchman -- system greatly disappointing! It really leaves something to be had... The coterie style is much more flexible, interesting and challenging! Then you could enjoy all the classes at once, instead of having to play the game about 100 times...
But i do not think they will abandon the group system...

Bigger parties and viewing from an angle with more of the screen displayed has always enhanced my playing experience. I hate being stuck designing only one character or a few instead of six or more. I just like the design and interface a lot better. I hate having to click my character and root through all sorts of mini menus above their heads to find out what I want them to do. I'd rather point and click.

Having larger parties would be cool and all. Personally I found Neverwinter Nights to be a dissapointment compared to the BG Series. But then again, it is hard to match a classic.
I prefer the user interface for BG, for one strange reason and that is that it is challenging. You have to know how to co-ordinate your hands and all of that. Also, I was introduced into the roleplaying world by BG 2.

I would be very dissapointed if they used the single henchman system in BG3. One of the defining things about the BG series was all the great NPCs you could find and recruit into your party, and after seeing that side of the game evolve so well as it did from BG1 to BG2, it would be a shame to see it completely scrapped in favor of the painfully simple and boring henchman system from NWN.

I found Neverwinter a huge let down too actually, the things it supposedly had going for it like the graphics and free roaming didn't appeal to me at all.

I personally thought that the nwn henchman system was dumb. I'm hoping that bg3 will have the same system as bg1 and 2. I'm also hoping that maybe obsidian will put out a really good henchman system in nwn2 and then I'll want that in bg3.

I don't know about anyone else, but as much as I enjoy bg's party system, I found myself pausing frequently to have my spellcasters cast at a reasonable time, or to stop a party member from walking out of formation, or some other reason to do the thinking for 6 people at once witha good strategum (<--may have missused that). A better ai system for bg3 to keep fighters from doing stupid things while I'm getting a spellcaster to do something would be nice.

I found that the ability to control multiple persons was brilliant. They each had their own storylines which made for a very interesting game. I found that the ability to choose your followers spells and all of that when they levelled up brilliant and unfortunately they never had that in NWN, unless I missed an option along the line somewhere. But then again, it might be because it was the first RPG that I ever played and I could not find a fault with it until XP came out (I love patches), but then again I can't be the only one person in a population of 6 billion people that loved that game. Most of the faults with the game, I never found and it is like that with most games.

I've got to concur here. I LOVED the entire Baldur's Gate series. Especially when they got to BGII as I thought the story picked up there and was even more interesting and really pulled you into the game.
I loved the interface and the fact that you can pick new characters as you adventure but that also (If you want) you can create your own entire party in multiplayer mode (as I'm doing now). I loved the auto-pause settings and the fact that the battles weren't just a click-fest it was all about strategy and made you think. I hope they keep pretty much everything the same but just update the graphics and perhaps let you move the camera around like you can in NWN.

Gotta agree with y'all. Playing one character with a henchmen... I could do that as I've played through BG several times with one or two characters, but I couldn't stand the fact that the hencemen totally lacked a character. Sure, they had a background and whatever, but it felt way more as if I was controlling a doll than working with a henchman.
Besides, the battle system was nowhere near the system of BG. Well, no game ever has, but this one definately had a long way to go. Not especially entertaining at all. :/

The traditional way of cause. It simply provided for more of a challenge and it didn't degenerate into hack&slash like NWN has a tendency to..
If anything, they should add more personalities for the various sidekicks so that you can chose one that fits your playing style and let the AI waste spells whille you click manicly on the rest of your party.

Well, I played BGI for quite some time with a few mates, and BGII for a few days (Never got that far) so my opinions may not be as well educated as they could be. The one thing that appealed to me about the NWN series was that you, in escence, were your character. They were your personal avatar in the game and henchies were just there to help you out. Whilst the control factor in the BGs was better game-play wise, I found myself getting much more into my character in NWN.
Oh, and If they make BGIII using 2nd ed. rules, I will hunt down the game-designers and kill everything they care for in the world...

None of the NWN campiagns were based around the PC like BG was, they were all: "There's trouble, and we need a hero to solve it". My character didn't really matter, anything different would have done equally well.
Also, because of this, none of the battles were challenging. BG battles were often a puzzle. "What if I open with a breach on the mage first, instead of a fireball in the center of the room". "what if I switch to missile weapons, and let them come to me, then have my clerics heal me during the fight?"
1 character means less tactics, basically. Especially with the inanely stupid henchmen of NWN.

The NWN sucks bad. However, the idea of being a dungeon master is brilliant. they should put that in bg3.
Oh yea, they need a better muti-player system, so people can enjoy the online experience.
