sling of seeking + gauntlets of ogre power = dead Kangaxx the demi-lich

Post by dragon wench »

I have played this game many times, and I have fought Kangaxx many times with a variety of strategies.

Today, I had one Hell of a surprise. Once he was in his demi-lich form I had each party member cast protection from undead (no, I did not cheat, I just bought them all at various temples and at Ribald's).
So, there was everyone hammering away at Kangy, and he went down quite quickly. But what shocked me as I scrolled up, was that Jaheira killed him with the sling of seeking while wearing the gauntlets of ogre power

I was sure that he needed a +5 weapon, and I also double-checked to make sure she was not carrying the sling of Everard. But no, it was definitely the sling of seeking, along with some sunstone bullets +1.

Has anybody else ever done in Kangaxx this way? I was certainly quite surprised :D

Usually I send in two or three mages/bards with Spell Immunity: Abjuration to do the job. It's a risky job, because you need to keep a very close look at their status: if the spell expires, it's bey bey NPC.

If I have Dalis with me, which is like 75% of the time, he's my main basher. Gotta love tactics with Sanchuudoku +4 and its abilities. The other two mages usually cast lower resistance and all that, and then start throwing in Melf's Minute Meteors. Great spell, really.

Your way of beating him sounds fun, too. Taking a mighty Demilich out with a sling must gall him to no end. The only part I didn't like, was where you cast Protection from Undead on each partymember. Come on, DW, no mages in your party? :p

I took on Kangaxx for the first time ever yesterday with my elven f/m/t/ and I don't think I even took a hit. Used protection from magic scroll for lich form and then protection from undead in his demilich form and he went down VERY easily.

That's pretty odd... I wonder what did it, the sunstone bullets, or the sling?

I seem to remember that the sunstones were sort of anti-undead themed....

I think they do extra fire damage. Did that damage the demi-lich or was it both the bludgeoning and fire?

The Gauntlets of Ogre power increase strength to 18/00 don't they? Well I know the sling of seeking actually uses the bonuses gained from strength and dexterity so that's probably part of it.

thaco yes...but kangy can only be hurt by +4 weapons. Its the fire damage. he is immune to the bullet itself. :p

*sigh* and here I hoped I'd managed to bring down the mighty Kangy with a +2 Sling  :p
Still, I didn't know the sunstone bullets would do it, so I'll tuck the information away anyway. I suppose what this means is that theoretically, depending on the amount of cheese used (like providing everyone with prot from undead :D ), is that a fairly low level party could do him in. Usually, I only attempt him after rescuing Immy...

Though, this brings to mind a question... If it were the sunstone bullets, then how would fire magic work? Or is it something specific about those bullets that seriously damage undead.
Jah was doing 2 points of damage (not bludgeoning damage) per hit.

@Sytze,
yeah, I have 3 mages in my party actually :o But, I think one of the mods I'm using has seriously improved his AI. He kept wisking quickly to where the rest of my party was standing (just near the door) and imprisoning them. I did kill him off at one point, but when I cast Freedom, a number of items had vanished, so I reloaded and changed tactics. Of course, I only realised *after* I won the battle the second time that I could have just removed all of the items from my other party members before taking him on.

The revelations always come afterwards, don't they? :)

I am surprised Kangaxx started imprisoning everyone even though they were near the doorway, though. I have almost every battle enhancing mod that's out there, and he has never done that before. Perhaps they've changed that in the very latest versions and I simply haven't experienced that nifty AI improvement yet (I tend to quit my games before I even confront Kangaxx after chapter 3).

I'll give it a new try sooner or later. I just started the most heavily modded game ever with Jah, Minsc, Yosh (Immie), Kelsey and Anomen (or Kivan, not sure yet), and I'm planning to give my 'Deathless Journey' concept a new try. Spices up the game for me just enough to keep me quite excited. :)
