GameBanshee looking wierd for me.... for others as well?

Post by Xandax »

My GameBanshee is starting to look wierd, with new icons appearing, some changing - like the "insert link" function looking like a :p smiley, and the impossibility of changing color etc in a post....

I have run antivirus and Norton claims I'm free, adaware claims I have no spyware, so I'd thought I'd check and see if others are experiencing this as well before I start splitting my machine complete into atoms?

This is how creating a new post looks for me at the moment:

New post creation screenshot

Edit: I also seem to have gotten a new checkbox out rightside of my screen which apparently enables me to quickselect posts, but I'm affraid to test it if I break something :o

Edit x2: I'm also seemingly getting quite a load of JavaScript errors constantly - even Ajax errors?? - Have this board changed system or something?

Edit x3: Using FireFox normally, Opera looks somewhat wierd to, but that might be how it looks in Opera. IE also looks differnet then normal.
It looks as though the board system has changed but then I wonder why there aren't more remarks about it?

Looks very funky to me, too...

In IE, and FF... I'm having trouble clicking on smileys and fonts, too...

No major problem, but a little irritating.

I'm beginning to get used to it, though I would prefer the edit window having access to smileys rather than needing to choose 'Advanced Mode'.

I'm using Opera, it has the fonts, sizes and colours, it's just not very clear. I think the colours are accessed by clicking a button with an 'A' on. That's better for me as it shows the colours rather than the names (as Opera normally does).

The pages system seems to have changed a bit too for threads with really big page counts.

Maybe GB wanted to give us a nice surprise... :D ;)

As for the screenshot, that's similar to mine. See the gray box to the left of the white smiley? That's how you select colours now. :p

I upgraded vBulletin to version 3.5 yesterday and several things have changed as a result. I'm currently working on a major revision to the overall look of the forums, but I'll see if I can tweak a few of the colors to get things showing up a little better.

Well - it isn't as much colors but more the usage of all the controls when creating posts etc, as can see by the image I linked to in my opening post.... that and all the JavaScript/Ajax errors (Ajax... does this new version use Ajax - bfff, buzzwords).

Twice today while I was on SYM and the SYM rules popped up on their own. It wasn't so noticable as I'm using Opera, but it was strange.

Is it connected to the vBulletin upgrade?

Does your problem include a "null" item as well? My computer has been yelling at me for a while now, but I am fairly certain that is because of the D-Link.

What I found weird was the blocks of coulor around the username, avater, the decription of the person and the space in between.

Now I have no excuse to spell anything wrong with the spell checker... Ill feign laziness instead. The interface also seems a little jumbled, random and blocky...still better than other forums I've been a member of, though...

The now redundant smiley system confuses me too...

I haven't had any error messages or dialog boxes. And seeing as I'm using Opera and have quite a lot of windows active in it, it's not as obvious as IE would be, but it doesn't make much sense to me.

Of course this may be one of those things that you notice when you look for differences and so I ignored it the first time. Strange... :p

I haven't got that, the interface looks the same as before (apart from the upgrades of course).

BTW, Display Modes (near the top of threads) doesn't seem to work (on a regular basis), either when clicking on the words that underline while the cursor is over them or the arrow next to the words.

Hmm, I'm not having many of these issues personally. My icons are all correct and I haven't seen a single JavaScript or Ajax error... yet.

I don't doubt there are problems, though. The latest version of vBulletin reverts a lot of the forums' templates back to their original versions, so I lost a lot of the custom code I've added in the past. I think I have the colors close to the way they were, though, so I won't be worrying about those until the new skin is rolled out.

The checkboxes on the right hand side only appear for mods and admins, I believe. They are designed to allow moderators to edit, delete, stick, etc. many threads at a time.

What "faces" are you referring to slade?

I think he meant smilies.
Maybe he turned off one of the features by accident?

The Disable Smilies in Text checkbox, perhaps.

EDIT: Sorry, it was the option in the profiles and I think the dropdowns that disapeared. I was able to use the PM while reading the forum leaders list, seeing if those still worked.

This appears to be the main JavaScript error I'm gettng now:
fetch_object("pagenav_form") has no properties
http://www.gamebanshee.com/forums/clien ... _global.js
Linie: 1519

It is visible from the FireFox JavaScript console, and is likey simply because the developers haven't used "proper" JavaScript. It is no where as many errors as I had previously (as mentioned ealier) with both Ajax errors and JavaScript errors. So I doubt it is something you can fix Buck.

I still, however have the interface as viewed in my linked in picture in FireFox 1.0.7, Opera 8.5 and IE 6.0

I also have the same problem with Line 1519. It apperas that in certain forums, such as SYM, it will pop up and say that null is nothing and should not be there.

If I click debug it takes me to Gamebanshees script.

It is annoying... every time I change a page, respond, enter a forum... it will pop up. It has popped up mostly in the SYM area, but other places as well...

Updates can also be behind the scenes - and not have anything to do with the front-end/user interface ;)

The new system has a spell checker as well?
I have looked a couple of times and I haven't seen one....

On topic though, I have had no problems at all. Both Firefox and Opera show the forums quite normally, and the upgrade features appear to work fine for me...

Me too

Especially in posting/editing posts. Some icons seems like my colour setting is in 256-colours or less, some doesn't get picture at all.
Also there seems to be a problem when I try to click the name of poster, cause it is shown as link, but nothing happens at all.

Anyone else have still same problems as I?
