AIEEEE, how do you beat the damn Demi-lich o' D00m!

Post by Haagen-Dazs »

I'm a lvl 16 berserker dual wielding katana's, my party consists of Minsc, Imoen, Nalia, Keldorn, and Aerie. I kill kangaax rather easily, sometimes with barely taking a hit, but the DAMN DEMI-LICH is immune to everything! I've tried time stop scroll/lower resistances/pierce shield thing, but no more than 30 seconds after that my main char is dead because of that lame imprisonment spell. Any cheap tricks to beat this bastard! I want that ring! :) I'm a lvl 16 berserker dual wielding katana's, my party consists of Minsc, Imoen, Nalia, Keldorn, and Aerie. There are TONS of strategies posted for beating Kangaxx, just do a search for them, or check out the strategies section on this very site.

Besides emphasizing the virtues of an oh-so-easy search, let me add that Kangaxx is immune to spells of levels 1-9. I read somewhere that the (supposedly level 10) quest spells will affect him.

Kangaxx, meet Comet. Comet, meet KANGAXX!

In a pinch :
- Make him busy with summons - Skeleton Warriors are best because Magic resistant...
- Beef up your fighters at maximum for attack! Improved Haste, all spells giving pluses,...
Then Hit him hard with a +4/+5 wpn and
have a mage in the back ready to cast freedom...
Too bad your char is a fighter type, game ends as soon as you're imprisoned - else you should let him out to allow the mage to free your comrades for a new round..

Only a weapon with a +5 bonus can harm a demi-lich (in SOA, Carsomyr and Crom Faeyr).
I think I have read somewhere (Monster Manual ?) that a demi-lich is only affected by three or four spells...

Actually I think it's +4 weapons. Staff of Magi's Spell Trap or Spell immunity is good against imprisonment, as well as prot from magic scroll.

While enraged your berserker will be immune to imprisonment. Improved haste, enrage, and whack with +4 weapon should do it.

I've had Jaheira kill him with the Staff of Rhynn +4 (she was protected with a Protection from Magic scroll). In another game, Aerie took him out with Melf's Minutes Meteors and the Ring of the Ram.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

the easiest strat. IMO, have two of the mages memorize one wizard eye each, then get melf minute meteors on every spellcaster into 2nd lvl slots, have Keldorn wield carsomyr.

after these preparations you're ready. after the lich is killed start casting wizard eye(or maybe even earlier), and make sure the wizard eye is closest to the demi lich, therefore the imprisonments are directed to the WE(wizard eye).

then have every mage cast melfs minute meteors and start throwing them, and let keldorn whack from safe distance the demi lich with carsomyr.

then you can either take time or estimate when the duration of the first WE starts to run out and start casting another one with the other mage (not with the same since you can only have one explorer on one mage or smth like that)

and when the mages run out of MMM's cast new ones and continue until you have one dead demi-lich, 55000exp and Gaxx's ring.

The best tactic I've used is to use a protection from magic scroll on any warrior carrying a +4 or greater weapon. Just have your fighter hack away while your mages pelt him with Melf's Minute meteors, and even the darts from Cloak of the Stars.

I did the following.. Had Edwin cast spell immunity Abjuration. Fire a scroll of protection of undead on Keldorn. Had edwin stand closer to him then any of the other characters. Send Keldorn wacking with the holy avenger. Because he is proctected from undead, he will ignore him and cast all of his spells on Edwin, who is immune.

its as easy as that!... :D
