Well, I'm a relative newbie, having only just reached the Asylum w. my Fighter lead character turning 11th level just before we set off.

Gurt - Dwarf Beserker (main)
Taleena - Human Dual Thief-Fighter (Archer)
Imoen
Aerie
Anomen
Jaheira

Both the fighters are imported from BG1, giving me excellent melee and ranged ability. I'm just a bit light on the thieving side - I have Jaheira cast Find Traps regularly, and am building up a stock of master thief potions!

This is an excellently balanced group, with 2 mage spellcasters, 3 clerical spell casters, 2 characters using bows, 3 using slings and one w. throwing axes, plus potentially four melee combatants. In the Asylum we destroyed a beholder in a single round, before it got any attacks off.

I had Mazzy for the Umar Hills quest but for some reason she took offense when I said her dead friends were weak and pathetic (or something along those lines) so she left.
BIG MISTAKE

- she took off with some valuable loot - I am going to hunt her down in Trademeet and kill her and all her friends 'slow and painful'

I told Jan to go home just before going in to Asylum. He was great thief and better spellcaster than Imoen, but I wanted to take her for the storyline. I don't backstab much, and when I really need to do so, I use Volygar.

Greetings from a Lurker --

I've been reading this board for a while now and thought I would finally make a contribution. I'm still playing through for the first time (I've just entered the Underdark). Usually I play Mages, but I thought I would do something out of character and go for a straightforward fighter. My party:

Human Male Fighter (Me)
Jahiera
Minsc
Valygar
Aerie
Nalia

I had planned to take Imoen back, but by the time I got around to doing it, Nalia was so high level I decided to send Imoen back to the CC (I felt bad, but I'm ultimately practicaly about these things.... Valygar happened kind of by accident since I got tired of "Sir Anomen" and I felt bad about Keldorn's family situation and let him go way too early. I hadn't expected to really like having two rangers, but so far it is working pretty well. Lots of melee power and spell power, at least for now.

I think next time I want to play as a sorcerer.... just to see.

*Nalia-lvl 10-(Invoke)Robe of the one that makes you cast 4x faster. A custom bow made for mages.
*Viconia-lvl 10-(Cleric)Dragon shield, and the sling of eveereng or something +5 makes own ammo.

I guess I have a pretty bland party compared to some of you folks; this is my 1st time through the game:

1) Undead Hunter
2) Jaheira
3) Minsc
4) Nalia
5) Anomen
6) Varies-currently Jan, will ultimately end up being Imoen for the story, even though I know she will be weak.

I find it hard to believe some people think Jaheira is not incredibly useful. Her spells rock, and she is quite the tank. Front line fighter for my group.

Jaheira - mildly edited, 25 const, 18/00 str (but has the 19str belt at the moment), 18 wis, 18 cha, 5 hits per round, walks as fast as with haste - naturally), necklace of power and the mind control shield, scimatar +3

So basically my mage and Jaheira do all the killing. The staff of the Magi is soo much fun: wand of the aprenti-invisible, wand of the aprenti-invisible. Really mop's them up.
Jaheira does the rest.
But editing her has cost me her associated quests and most likely the romance, but at the moment, too bad.

Jaheira(Druid summoning spells)
Viconia(to get 7th level cleric spells)
Imoen(summons mordenkain's(sp?) swords)

I'm not really a magic-user,so Keldorn and me would hack and slash while the others watched from a distance

This party works OK if you leave enough quests on chapter 6 to raise the level of Imoen. You can launch so many spells, you shred any magic shield in seconds and can swarm your enemy at any moment with 18 magic missiles or more (OUCH). Plus you don't need to spend any money on healing.

Second party (The evil doers):

Lord Ar-Atannir (Evil Beserk/Thief)
Korgan
Valygar
Viconia
Edwin
Jan Jansen (planning to use Yoshimo and the Imoen)

Third party (in the planning):
Me (Kensai/Mage - chaotic neutral) and my slayer form. I want to use my "untapped" powers whenever I get in trouble. Perhaps I'll let Jaheira tag along to see her romance.

I may run yet again with a female skald or a druid, just to see the reactions and the other strongholds.

Minsc - And Boo; wouldn't go anywhere without them

Mazzy - Shorty Paladin...
Yoshimo - buffed up with all kinds of rings/cloaks/boots... I had the money to spare - Will leave when I rescue Imoen..

...probably should have gotten a cleric instead of the druid, for some anti-undead abilities, but I want to rule the druid grove.
