hasted keldorn with casomyr and backup with arrows and spells worked well for me. Spoiler: there is also a demon you can get the heart from that is to the left of the entrance to the planar sphere rather than in the midddle. this one is easier as there are less other bad guys attacking you at once.

Protection from Evil and Protection from Fear are must. Last thing you want is your terrified NPC runs around and bring another demon with him/her. Also, some form of free movement can help. I think the demon casts some sort of stun spell.
If you have mage, better use vocalise, just in case.

Carsomyr helps a lot, but I usually do Planar Sphere before getting it. You just need to prepare for it.
Oh, and concentrate on killing one demon at a time, and not to try fighting all front. Use summoning to stop others (like skeltons) coming towards you.

Yeah, that is the one.

I haven't played this game for a quite while, and couldn't remember it. I just thought, people know what I mean anyway ;) .

Bolts of Glory

Its also nice to have a ranged attack that does damage against a demon. Bolts of glory do huge damage (special damage for demons and undead) and cut through magic resistance. They have a long casting time so make sure the imps and other garbage monsters don't disrupt the spell (i like death spell to make them go away).

Summons are also a good idea and save on ressurection after the battle. I have a druid usually and so a pair of fire elementals can help out.

ps - the remove fear spells: a 1st level one for clerics and a 2nd level one for mages both target the whole party (if they are all in range) and they last a fair amount of time too. Also they CAN remove the fear of an already fearful character if you can catch them running away.

I have found that poison works well. The very first time I played BG2, I made the mistake of doing the Planar Sphere when I was barely out of Chateau Irenicus..
When I got to the demon part I reloaded many times. Finally Valygar got him with that weapon of his that deals poison.

she only appears at night once you have enough money and for me she always appeared when you enter the graveyard - just walk up the path a little

Spoiler:
Once valen appears ( that's what you're talking about right?) you have to go to the graveyard at night before you go te gealen bayle (you know, the shadow thief guy). Perhaps if you refuse to pay him the money you can still go to the graveyard.

If you're in chapter 3 and you haven't talked with her yet, you won't be able to anytime soon. You either pay her or Gaelen Bayle the 15,000.

Also, Hold monster, I found, worked a treat against that demon outside the planar sphere (You may have to reload a few times though :/)

The Shadow Thief hide out is, when you look on the map, on the left side, between the middle of map and top - once inside there, walk straight up through a door, and there should be a secret door on the wall.

Also, you can enter it to see Aran Linvail via another way if you've payed Gaelen Bayle, just head through the barracks and go through there. (It should lead you outside to the docks on a kind of 'ledge', which if you follow, leads to an opening in the wall.

Either way works. The former requires the key (which you get from either paying Bayle or killing him) while the latter does not require the key, but you must have paid Bayle for it to be open.
