You buy a new graphics card.

And yes, there is no other solution.

You take your computer to a computer store, give them a budget and let them give you some choices of graphics cards, pick one at random, and let them install it.

I think we need to be a little more specific to help out Aznbabygirl101 with this problem.

Can anyone recommend a relatively good, inexpensive video card, that will run most games, and isn't on the cutting edge--so it doesn't cost a small fortune?

For what it's worth, I'm still using one of the ATI Radeon 9600 series. It's old, and I'll probably upgrade soon, but it does run everything.

Everyone has a different definition of what is an acceptable budget. I'm planning to severely overdraw my bank account for an X850XT before Christmas, but other people might be reluctant to spend even $50 USD.

I would think anybody who is looking for a decent video card at $50 USD is being very unrealistic. An acceptable budget might be around $100-$125. There are many suitable cards within this range, especially if you hunt the Web for unboxed (but legit) versions.

The 9600 Pro is worth about $50 USD now

For $100-$125 budgets, X700/X700Pro/9800Pro or 6600/6600GT AGP versions are pretty good.

Mine runs B&W 2 just fine and it's about 75-80 bucks I think.

It's an MSI FX5500 and I've been runnin Dragonshard, B and W 2, Dungeons Siege 2, and it's all fine. It's made by Nvidia, so it's reputable.

You can go to google and click on "Froogle," then type in Video Cards or even MSI FX5500 and it might give you some good options.

But yes, there is no other way.

The FX5500 doesn't run B&W 2 particularly well. And by now any store that is selling it at over $50 is trying to rip people off.

If he is going to upgrade, he might as well upgrade such that he won't have to do so in at least one year or so.

Actually, for some reason, mine works fine. It rarely slows down and when it does, it goes away in a few seconds.

Maybe I was wrong on the actual name of the card, I mean, I bought it about 7 months ago and it might be a slightly different name. I get confused on why there is a difference between GForce FX 5500, FX 5500, and GeForce5500 (using those as an example, dunno if they are even real names of cards)

Compared to the amount of names for things like rain, snow, and the sun, I think the amount of names for the GF 5500 isn't many at all.

Just remember, if you're buying on your own, to crack open the box BEFORE buying to make sure you have an AGP slot... If you don't, then you're limited to PCI cards (different slots). I got a free AGP card from my brother when he found out the one he bought wouldn't fit in his pc...

Well I relize this is a very old post, but I was googling around to find help since I just got Black And White 2, and I have the same problem, now, I am only 13 and live in Canada, so the prices may be different from others but what I'm looking for help is the fact that I am 13 and don't have the money at the time. So I checked and found....
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130197
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130197
But I'm positive Newegg is American. Now I found one for Bestbuy in Canada, the same eVGA Geforce FX5500 Video Card except, it's $100 more...
http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0926INGFS10042359&catid=20397
Now this is the biggest rip off ever, I could spill out $50 but I'm not sure if it's Canadian and I don't like the idea of spending money over the internet, I can easily go down to Bestbuy for that Video Card. But $149.97 is way too much. So I need help, I suppose I don't mind spending money over the internet, but I need to find a Canadian, trustworthy site for the proper Video Card.

Sadly, I've never trusted a non online store ever since I found amazon. Newegg is pretty decent, I agree, but I just like online shopping in general is all.

Hey, Kersh, I feel your pain. I went and did a little checking for the current exchange rate and came up with this result. I'm not sure if the site is American... truthfully, I don't buy much over the internet.

The second site is a rip. Our dollar might be worth less than the American's, but not that much. If your willing to part with $62.22 Canadian, I would go for the first. However, that exchange rate is variable... for all I know, it could be $68.

I'll check around... some of the larger sites handle different types of currency from different countries. I'd go out and check some of the stores around you and see how much this model costs off the shelf. Í know Compusmart at one point sold them, but was recently bought out. EB, Future Shop or Staples should all have cards as well.

If I may ask, is this your money your spending?

Edit- That second site might be out of date... either way, I went to Amazon and found this list here. Some are used on the lists of sellers, but most are new. Exchange rates apply, and some areas they can't ship to. There will be an error message on the screen if they can't ship to your area.

I'd speak to your parents on this one, as they have more knowledge then you, and most likely me as well, about buying items. ;)

Well when it come to buying items they probably know more, but when it comes to computers, I know way too much compared to them, so I wouldn't trust them into choosing what works best for my computer but I will still have to look into prices and online, business, etc;. And as for what I am mainly looking in to, is for something maybe around here, I'll drop by Staples or FutureShop later though. Do you live in Canada? Or America? If Canada where so, just curious as to things in Canada can have a huge impact on prices when it comes to Northern Provinces, such as something in Nunavut can be much, much more than something in Ontario.

I used to be from London, Ontario, in the southern region of that province, and I now reside in the more Northern city of Calgary, Alberta. Prices here are higher for everything, but that is probably due to the amount of money coming through this city lately. Most people come only to make some money before they go off to retire in British Columbia or head off to a more comfortable job.

Card prices and the like have not changed that much in price, though. Both places had the same high end graphics card for the same price. In the end though, if you live in the middle of the northern expanse, than your going to have some higher prices... transportation to that area isn't easy.

I'm not sure how much of a shipping fee would be involved, but if you live that far north, than it's likely slightly more expensive than I would have to spend.

Oh, I live in Guelph, Ontario, west of Toronto, about an hour away. And ya, shipping goods farther north costs more thats why I made that statement. Currently my mother is in B.C. visiting a friend, who has like 3 million dollars :mischief: So, makes me wonder, lol. Anyway ya, I am going to have to look into this a bit more as I said before. Thanks for your help though.

Your welcome. DJV actually told me what was here, so he deserves a little credit.

I'll continue to check around for you, but I honestly don't know much about internet buying sites. Good luck with this.
